Well these days you are lucky if you get anything at all along these lines-- everything is so politically correct and everyone bending over backwards to be "sensitive" and woke...

But anyway to your point:

It does seem that black is favored over white undies-- and most likely for the reason that it's considered more riske' and sexier.

Consider the old pantyhose vs. garter belt and stockings debate. How many times in stripping scenes/clothes loss scenes do you see the woman stripped down to pantyhose compared to garter belt and stockings? it almost always the latter. Why? I think because the garter belt and stockings are considered sexier where pantyhose is considered more utilitarian.

I'll give you a perfect example of this mindset-- "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark"-- Casandra Peterson plays the title character and has excellent legs. From the cut of iconic dress, she can only be wearing pantyhose. There is no question about it. Yet in one scene we have her undressing and being spied on by a boy looking through a window. As she takes off the dress, she's somehow magically in...you guessed it... a garter belt and stockings. Why? because pantyhose was not considered sexy enough.

I also think it mitigates embarrassment somewhat...I mean if you're in public in your underwear as a woman, if it's seen as being sexy, there's an added element there that takes a bit of the sting out of the ridicule.

One final point-- it seems as times progresses you get less and less cheesecake in films...and when you do, the girl seems to be in what I term "costume underwear"...a tank top and volleyball shorts or something. Not what you would consider "real" underwear.

Case in point: a few years ago the film "Gravity" came out starring Sandra Bullock. As part of what can only be termed planned and staged publicity for the film, there was a flap with Bullock complaining of having to do scenes in her underwear...she stopped short of saying "exploitive" but made it seem like that was a big point of contention with the director. Now Sandra Bullock doesn't wear anything she doesn't want in films at this point so you know immediately that this is all B.S.

And the "underwear" that Bullock wore? a tank top and bicycle shorts. "Costume" underwear.

Or a...ugg...sports bra, which is a huge "BOOO!" from me.

But on the topic of black lingerie, for the most part I totally agree with it usually being disappointing, especially if it goes against the character the woman is playing. For example, a super churchy woman getting stripped down to her "sexy black bra and panties" is not all that hot, especially since the appeal of her getting stripped is to see her in the sensible underwear that she didn't want anyone to see. As I've said many times, it's why Janet's stripping from Rock Horror remains a classic. By the same token, while I'm a huge fan of subtle bra lines, I'm not a fan of the black bra under light colored top look. I say that largely for two reasons. First, part of the appeal of EUF is the woman doesn't want you to see her underwear, and second, I view the stripping very much like a present being unwrapped. That is, I don't want the surprise to be spoiled. ;)

With all that said, there are some nice black lingerie scenes that are on topic to this thread. I think one of my favorites is Robot Ninja. The movie itself is in the same so good it's bad category as Troll 2 and The Room. A random 80s babe is grabbed in a store parking lot and her shirt is ripped off (she's saved before anything bad happens). I think it works for a few reasons. First, the actual stripping is pretty hot. Her shirt is ripped and then literally peeled down off, after which she's put on her back to show off her bra-covered tits in all their glory. Second, while she's wearing a black bra, even with some satin and lace cups, it's fairly understated and not meant to look sl*tty. Third, she's legit humiliated to have been stripped down to it.

She's also wearing some sexy mom jeans. Sadly those don't come off to reveal if the panties match or not. :rolleyes:

I think the black underwear thing is a holdover from an earlier generation. In the 40's and 50's men found it ultra sexy because most women wore plain white (or pink) underwear. Black was only worn by "bad girls". Mid 20th century pop culture branded them the height of sexiness, and now it's a well established "fact" that black bras and panties are the sexiest thing a woman can wear.

While we're on the subject of black underwear, stockings, and garter belts, here's a few EUF caps from The Benny Hill Show.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it was done in front of a live audience. On a side note, Ana Faris is ten times hotter with dark hair. I don't know why she went blonde.

According to Jeannine Taylor (the girl who did the OTHER underwear scene in Friday the 13th), Laurie Bertram was genuinely embarrassed doing the bra and panty scenes. She didn't even like wearing a swimsuit in the scenes on the dock. She was a born again Christian, and was very uptight about showing her body. Sadly, she passed away in 2007 (pancreatic cancer). She was only 49.

Here's a still from Laurie Bartram's swimsuit scene. As you can see, she looks extremely uncomfortable. Jeannine Taylor, on the other hand, had no problem showing her body. She did one of the best panty scenes of the 1980's (and that's really saying something) in Friday the 13th...and then pretty much disappeared.

Natalie Portman masturbation scene from the film; Black Swan. I'm including it here because A. She's in her underwear (and there's a great reaction shot at the end of the scene when she realizes that her mother was in the room the entire time), and B. She said in an interview that this scene was extremely embarrassing to do, and that she found it "disgusting" (which is a very odd thing for a young woman to say about a perfectly natural sexual act). I think this quote tells us a lot. When Natalie Portman made Black Swan, she was already a pretty big star. She probably considered herself above doing a scene like this, but was pressured into it by the director. Natalie said in another interview that she's too accommodating when directors ask her to do things (and she was talking about the director of this film just prior to that quote). The other reason I think she hated this scene is the fact that it's not simulated. She's really masturbating, and in a way that many women first learn how. It's easy to see how this made her feel embarrassed and vulnerable...but isn't that exactly what actors strive for? A genuine human performance? Anyway, it's a great scene. One of the best of it's kind from an A level actress. The only one that may be better is Aubrey Plaza's masturbation scene in; The To Do List, which, according to Aubrey, was also the real thing. This scene isn't graphic, but if it crosses the line into hardcore territory, just delete the post.
