What's the best beach in England for topless women but not a nudist beach ?

In our experience going topless on beaches in the UK is not really practiced or tolerated. More than once on beaches in Cornwall Shirley was asked to put her bikini top on by beach lifeguards.
You ever have to be careful at designated nudist beaches such as Studland or Brighton.

Has anyone else any stories of sunbathing topless on a UK beach?

I find it really odd that you say a lifeguard instructed her to put her top on.

It's never been illegal for a woman to be topless in the UK. In fact its not illegal for man or woman to be nude, unless there is intention to cause offence.

The thing is, the climate doesn't really lend itself to sunbathing in general most of the year, so we don't have the topless culture like Spain or France.

That said, in the last ten years I have seen women topless in:

Newquay/Cornwall
Falmouth/Cornwall
Torquay/Devon
Lowestoft/Suffolk
Great Yarmouth/Suffolk
Brighton/Sussex
Formby/Liverpool

Not saying its common, it isnt, but noone cares. Less than 5% topless at best.

But told to cover breasts ? Totally unlikely in my experience, would really like to hear of any extra detail on this.

You are quite correct about it not being illegal to go topless or nude in the UK but as we understand it the law says that if someone is offended by you going topples or nude then that is a problem - and I guess we have just been unlucky enough to find someone who was on that beach and perhaps had never been abroad to France, Spain or Greece where going topples or nude is widely accepted.

As I understand it, and I might be wrong.

It's not somebody taking offence that makes it illegal It's if you person exposing themselves intends to cause offence.

Either way, it only applies to genitals in the UK, not breaats or nipples of any gender. So these lifeguards are going well outside their remit. You should really report it to the local council or MP.

British Naturism would also possibly be interested to hear about it.

Basically if you are not in some way actually causing harassment, alarm or distress as opposed to the complainant personally finding nudity distasteful or offensive legally you are clear.

This is aside from breasts not being genitals as already stated.

Any private place can of course set their own rules.

My wife would sometimes remove her top when on holiday abroad but over the years this has got less and less frequent.
She’s now mid-fifties and has a few body image issues however much I reassure her she still looks amazing.
Last weeks heatwave across the UK must have made her reassess herself and with a little encouragement from myself she once again found the confidence to strip off even though it was just her and myself in a private garden.
Here’s hoping the confidence continues when we are back on foreign beaches!

And never revealed her boobs on a UK beach.

My wife has never gone topless on holiday before. She has huge boobs and has always been self conscious about them. Next month we are going to a resort where we have a private room over the ocean with our own plunge pool. I’m hoping to encourage her to go topless (or naked) there in our own secluded area. I’ll go fully naked the whole time we are in that space to try and encourage her out of her top….

My wife also never goes topless on beaches etc, but just to give you a bit of encouragement she always had her boobs out when we had a private lodge and pool in Thailand a few years back.

In places where it is legally safe or there is a very low expectation of being on the wrong side of the law I will be prepared to go topless ... lawyers fees are expensive enough without it having to be at aboard rates.

Quite a few in the EU ... topless or even nudity is allowed ... I was also under the impression that parts of the US accept it in certain places ... some of the islands in the Caribbean do to ...

My wife Connie is a regular topless sunbather when on holiday and says that most other women she knows have been topless on holiday at some point. Even if just with their other half somewhere reasonably private, or on a girls trip or when they were much younger and more carefree / confident.

Connie also says that all the women she has spoken to about it, regardless of whether they are regular or just occasional topless sunbathers, speak positively about the experience of doing it. Even if they won’t do it anymore. Words she has used (either describing how she feels about it or things others have said to her) include exciting, liberating, freeing, invigorating, exhilarating, empowering. All of which I understand and can imagine being the case.

Do people here agree with Connie’s view that more women than not have at least tried it once? Suspect that is more likely the case in Europe than elsewhere.

It certainly seems to be the case, from experiences I have had with Connie and others, that even those who haven’t are usually up for trying it in the right setting and with a bit of encouragement from another female.

I have talked to many girlfriends or just female friends and encouraged them to go topless. Almost all of them have tried it at least once (it is quite common in southern Spain) and nearly all speak positively about it and enjoy it. However, most reserve it for places where people don't know them and when there are no guys they know nearby, though once they get used to it, they usually don't mind doing it whenever they can. In many cases, what encourages them the most is for someone else to do it so they are not the only one, but I also know many who, depending on their mood and even knowing no one else will follow them, will just go for it. And in holidays, almost every one try it being far from home, regardless they do not try in own beach.

I think you a right, probably well over 50% of UK women in my age bracket and older have tried at least once the experience of exposing their tits to the world on a European beach (or pool 20 years ago). Alas the UK vibe abroad is now very different: younger UK women millennial and younger on the whole do not, and have never. That's not every woman 40 and younger (my sil being a recent example of someone fessing up to me she gets her ample set out on hols in the right environment, but that probably says more about my in laws relaxed attitude to nudity than her generation). But mainly younger ish UK women have not grown up getting their norks out on hols, and I suspect now never will.
My wife this very morning in bed on our family holiday in France, remarking on the chic grey haired retired French women in pairs of friends,casually chatting with each other and going for the odd dip in the sea, all the while tits out: wife said that would be her at the drop of a hat when she takes early retirment. But apart from the obvious tax and brexit fiscal issues regarding this dream of her retiring to topless French beach, she remarks than none of her close friends would conceive of doing that. She feels even the many friends that she's seen their tits as she's spent a week sunbathing topless with in her younger years, even they have resigned the norks out sunbathing to a thing of the past. So the percentage of UK wives topless on holidays is now I fear very low, and only set to get lower.
I have seen a fair few pairs of tits this week, but none of them British. Well, my wife's obviously, eg all that talk this morning and I said she had to give me a look at hers, so she obliged obviously, but even my wife doesnt get her tits out ow other than at a nude beach and without our kids around, which was so different to say 1990s or early 00s where most UK women, including mums with kids, would have their tits on show all day on holiday.

The nude beaches we go to no one uses a camera! They'd be lynched I think. It's more every other Spanish, French and Greek beach that used to have the majority of the women, tounge and old, with their tits out, but now they don't because on the normal nude beaches people are snap happy which has put off the normal women on standard beaches getting their norks out

I always smile when I read a quote like this on this site. A site that has lots of threads of women on beaches, photographed naked and likely without their knowledge or consent.

Not being parents ourselves we were wondering if mothers are doing enough to educate their daughters about going topless on holiday?
We have Spanish friends who talk to their daughters and so mom, daughters, aunties, even grandmas will all go topless together at the beach.

Not being parent myself but with lots of friends with daughters, first to say most of them do practise topless on the beach sometimes, usally when alone but most do not show nothing with whole family, said tha we have differents study cases:
1. I (she) never goes topless, or just when young in beachs far from home: Not encouraging her daughters but they admint that pracitsed it when young...
2. She goes toplees depending the beach, not in his familiar or plenty of friends one, yes when travelling or going alone. Usually the girls are shy and they dont try to press them but they are familiar with the practise and sooner or later the do with her mother (and father) but most of the cases, I know they go toplees sometimes when not in front of her parents, sometimes do with her mother. Let me gess that they will go topless when get more confident.
3. Hardcore topless mums, they stay topless almost on every beach they go...girls usually do the same than in previos chapter, they usually stay with top untill they get confidence. Ive seen it before, the older sibbling gets topless before the younger one, two or three years later, she starts doing it and become both topless fans.
In case of my closest mums, they try to encourage them, and girls go tits out when child, then when boobs start to grow they cover it and later, and when 18 or 20 they rediscover topless again.

Agree with you, here in Spain still is popular and goes runs in the family
