So I convinced the same girl who's videos and pictures I already found to give me an old SD card of hers. I told her my old camera would only take cards under 1 gig. She comes back a couple days later gives me an old 256mb card she found lying around at home. She asked if that would work and I said yeah thank you.

And an extra thank you now after I have run the recovery :)

Recovery Software

Guys I tried a lot of the free recovery software you guys have recommended here, for me the one that provided better results was SGsecurity's PhotoRec. Great succesful recovery rate for photos, even pdfs and other shit.
The only problem with this one is that just like the other softwares have been mentioned here the success rate on videos is very low. Many appear blanked or if lucky without sound, just a few are good.

I guess we need to find some that is just oriented to recovering videos.

Cheers ;)

Probably nothing to do with being a video and more file size. The bigger a file is the more sectors it uses on a disk. When deleted the sectors are available for reuse and its likely some get overwritten. Smaller files like pics its less likely

hooked then up and they just show up as data storage drives when plugged into my iMac. then just scanned them.

i also have one 3.5" hdd hear but it wouldn't even power up so either the plug doesn't work with 3.5 or the hdd is dead.

3.5" HDDs require more power than the 2.5" models. You may need to find an adapter that supplies 12v power, which would likely require an external power supply.

Phones

If someone resets their phone, does that also wipe cards and such beyond recovery?

That will not work for 3.5"

You need an adapter that will provide 12V and 5V power, or use a desktop computer for power and USB adapter just for the data / signal.

Be wary of cheap eBay 12V @ 2Amp & 5V @ 2Amp power supplies as some on a hard drive only rated 1Amp will blow after a very short time.

to be honest with you i share your disappointment when i click on this thread and see the latest update is some technical stuff that goes right over my head.

however, let's not be too downhearted - if people are sharing their skills and knowledge and others are learning how to retrieve images, in the long term we all win with stuff to look at when they hit the jackpot :)

if none of the members know how to recover pics, there wouldn't be much to post here.

And the use of a question form, punctuated with a period to show the use of the rhetorical... quite smart.

Chance to buy I Phone

A girl I went to school with is selling her I Phone 6 and I have said I might buy it. She 100% has taken lots of nudes on the phone but will have deleted them. She won't have gone any further than deleting and then deleting recently deleted. Would I still be able to definitely recover pics from there? I don't want to waste £200 on a phone for no bloody reason

Probably not.
Depends on many factors as for example if iphone is jailbroken or not.
Easiest thing to do when selling an iPhone is resetting it. Encryption on these phones is enable by default so i think it is going to be hard (if not impossible at all) to recover anything.

If she just deleted her pics and just de-associated her Apple id maybe something can be done as you would get the numeric code (touch id code) to decrypt the phone memory and maybe you can perform a scan but i don't know if recovery tools can handle the iPhone filesystem, which root level is not accessible unless it is jailbroken... If somebody has experience regarding it I would be curious about the results....

I would not recommend an iPhone for this kind of activity as security is pretty strong.

How much of a waste really is it? Is your £200 offer OTT or typical i.e. how much would you be likely to be out of pocket by selling it again? If say £25 perhaps an amount worth loosing?

These aren't exactly on-topic for this thread but I'll post here anyway. I picked them off someone's computer more than a decade ago when peer-to-peer file sharing was new. I think it was Limewire; anyway, you designated which files on your computer could be shared, and some people probably didn't understand that it wasn't just music files, so they set it up to share everything. These were the days of digital cameras where photos were uploaded to computers. I would search for terms like 'nakey' that guys wouldn't use for porn, but women would use for amateur shots of themselves and friends. If something looked promising I could browse the person's entire computer. I got real lucky the first time out, but the whole thing ended up being a huge time suck with not much payback.

I remember this gal lived in Chicago and hung out with rock bands I'd never heard of.

A lot of what I found was pix from amateur sites that guys apparently subscribed to. For instance, file names starting with QSH came up a lot. I kept a separate folder for pix that seemed to be first-time finds, and those are the ones I'm posting here. One clue was that the file names started with DSC which I took to mean they were taken on some popular brand of camera, and left unchanged after they were uploaded to computer. I mention this because it's possible that some of them were from amateur sites, or have made their way to the Internet over the years. AFAIK they are all new to OCC

One more caveat: If I knew or could guess at a woman's first name from the context, I made it part of the file name, but it may be just a guess.
