I stumbled across them while looking for photos of this year. Admittedly, the quality is poor, and most are rear rather than frontal shots, but a couple (especially the last one!) are keepers.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that more/better photos of this year show up. Perhaps because I've been spending so much time recently looking at photos of people getting naked in the desert, I'm really interested in seeing more of these people running naked in the rain.

Thanks: first, because the pictures are good; second, how did you stumble? I ask because when I searched, and used "full text" with "first rain" in quotes (since using "first" and "rain" separately gives, like, a zillion, or at least well over the ~4000 you can actually see with a Flickr search), I didn't find 'em...Anyway, excellent catch.

In this case I think it was just: <santa cruz first rain> with no quotes. For something like this I'll try as many combinations as possible and I searched off an on over the course of several days and luckily this one hit. While I'm glad this hit, it's a reminder that it's entirely possible that there are tons of photos from this and every other event we're interested in on flickr, but don't have tags we'd think of and some maybe don't even have tags at all. Some of the best photos I've seen on flickr I found just by going through friends lists of people whose photos did match up. When I've gotten to the friends' albums I've found some nice pics from exactly the event I'm looking for with absolutely no tags or searchable filenames. This happens rarely, but it's nice when it does.

Its also called the "Porter run" by some, I believe.

Good work! That was a great catch because who would have thought "First" and "Rain" would have been listed as separate tags. Also "Santa" and "Cruz" for that matter.

well, more evidence that the event did occur, and that most spontaneous video-takers suck. don't get your hopes up. anyone ever hear of a flash?

a year has gone by and I am bumping this thread because "first rain" is due again in Santa Cruz probably Monday (20% chance) and more definately Tuesday (90% chance according to wunderground). Now I apologize if this has already happened this fall because i haven't been paying that close attention. Anyway, but lets start searching for pics, now perhaps but especially after Tuesday! Post 'em here!

thanks,

This just happened again on Monday. I haven't found any new pics (I'm sure most of those are on facebook accounts, probably private), but in looking around I came across an old set from a few years ago, which appears to be new to this board. Not worth starting a new thread, but well worth posting.

I also came across a good video on youtube, which I'm going to upload to rapidshare to save it from the TOS monster.

Edit: I actually realized they're in Klondike's comprehensive zip of first rain photos, which can be found here http://www.sendspace.com/file/7hruys. I don't think they've been posted directly on the board, so I'll just leave them here. I feel like deleting pictures of naked girls is like taking points off the board in football after a defensive penalty. It's just something you don't do.

Fango has posted a vid from 2009 which is quite well done despite lousy audio. Otherwise, yes - those pics are not new but thats OK.

I figure this year we can't do any worse than last year when no pics surfaced at all that I can recall.

Coming soon!

Ususally it rains in Santa Cruz early in October. Who's ready to catch the naked students when it happens?

Yup, I haven't been watching the weather reports much lately, but tomorrow there is a 30% chance of rain in Santa Cruz. Will this be their "first rain"? Who will be there???

Hopefully our student operative will come through, and wasn't just trolling...
