Twice now you have "brightened" pictures until they are burned out. There was only one pic in the original post that was even remotely underexposed, the rest were fine.

I think YOU nedd to check YOUR monitors settings, apparently it is set too dark on your end.

Yes, I do set my monitor's brightness and contrast
on the low side, to reduce computer eye strain,
which also affects my tinnitus.

I did notice that many of those pics I brightened were
quite dim though, even when I set the monitor's brightness
to the maximum.

Moreover, those members who thanked me
didn't seem to have a problem with them, nor
did the moderators, so I thought I must be doing
something right.

I think many of the photos were taken with mobile
phone (which don't have flashes) or small digital cameras,
which usually have tiny flashes and don't compensate for
inadequate lighting sufficiently, especially in interior backgrounds
or night shots.
