Young Egyptian Activist Publishes Nude Photo of Herself !!

2 Attachment(s)
A young Egyptian female activist today published nude photos of herself on an internet blog as "an act of personal self expression."

In one of the photos, yellow rectangles covered parts of her body. She reportedly says “The yellow rectangles on my eyes, mouth and sex organ resemble censoring of our knowledge, expression and sexuality,”

The pictures were posted earlier today (Sunday 11/13/11), and already have drawn over 30,000 internet views, and lots of comments, many in Arabic, on her Twitter account and Facebook page.

The photos below are from her blog, one set of nude photos could not be posted because it is watermarked.

However, full details on her protest can be found on this news site:

The Twitter link is: hash tag #NudePhotoRevolutionary

Her facebook page is in her own name which I will NOT post here.

The link to her pictures on an Arabic blog are here:

Wow, she did this and she still lives in Egypt? I hope she's still safe. Egypt is one of the two most conservative Islamic countries in the world, along with Pakistan.

Actually I think this action will turn Egypt to a more liberal society, like it did in the western world. Sex is so essential for the human nature. Censoring sex will do strange things to societies. This picture will open up many peoples minds in Egypt. Of course some will be mad as hell, but there will be even more who reacts on those who reacts violently.

Thanks for a really good and interesting post!

I don't know if Egypt is one of the most conservative countries in the world. I mean, don't they have a relatively developed liberal middle class, compared to other Arab countries?

It's comically hypocritical that so many of the outcriers enjoy the view.

I wonder if the same people who flip over women in their own culture defying expectation enjoy looking at foreign women.

Hope she's safe.

She'll be safe. Egypt is actually quite liberal about thing like this, compared with for example Iran or Saudi.

Plus, they are one of a few muslim country that have trade links with Israel.

Thank you Melocure. I was actually going to say the same thing. I am not sure what is the source of info about Egypt being one of 2 most conservative countries in the world. Someone seems to have forgotten Saudi Arabia, most of the gulf, Iran, and AFGHANISTAN along the way.

To add to your post, there's a very well established tourist industry here that is tolerant to pretty much everything. There are even nude beaches in Egypt, I am from Egypt and I have been to one of them. And if you go through some of the posts on the forum you will find some pics taken in Egypt.

I think people in Egypt are making a big deal out of it because the whole thing became associated with liberal movements in Egypt which is being heavily attacked by conservative movements especially as the elections near. But she's not the first person in Egypt to get naked in front of the camera (check out some of Egypt's film productions - raunchier than you might expect) and she definitely won't be the last.

Dont want to get away from the ladies who feel strong enough to remove their clothes to show what they believe, but it does not have the effect in the west as it once did, but Aliaa going naked will mean she will most probably have to leave egypt or face jail.
Saudi Arabia is bringing in a law where women who are demmed to have sexy or erotic looking eyes will have to wear a veil to cover their eyes .
Women have to wear an Abaya and cover there hair, but now the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice have said its their duty to protect men from women who have tempting eyes and commit a crime they would not make if a woman's eyes were not on view

CNN interview with a bit more information about Aliaa and her boyfriend.

It seems Egypt is in a state of flux at the moment with Islamists quite likely to take power, the question is whether it will be the moderates (Muslim Brotherhood) or the ones advocating a religious state (Salafists). But as the interview mentions, even the liberal people behind the April 6 revolution disowned her.
