Not a German Sauna but had an experience in Finland in a Finnish Sauna. Most farms in the country have a sauna made of limbs, rocks, mud, and grass. Several years ago my wife had some business over there and we turned it into a vacation. We were staying at a farm house out in the country.

If you plan to visit the spa in the town where they also make weissbeer, go ahead, it's a bucket list thing, the place is HUGE. But as far as I am concerned, once you have ticked it off, that's it, it is impressive but hardly a charming place.

If you have the time, take the wonderful BOB train to Tegernsee and the main therme there, which is quite well stocked with saunas, including one in a boat out in the see with the alps in view. I is possibly the most charming place I have ever been to.
