Great thread!

What program are you using to extract the thumbnail?

It's called Opanda IExif. A word of warning, it did something funky to my system (I'm running Vista). Nothing seriously harmful, but JPEG icons were deleted and it makes Task Manager close at unexpected times (even when it's not open).

That's just a thumbnail of a larger image, so there's no EXIF info on that. Do you have the original sized image?

vidguru 09-29-2008 05:32 PM

I am running Vista and have installed Opanda IExif and thankfully everything works great :)

noone911 09-29-2008 08:19 PM

Hello. I tried that Opanda program on both XP and Vista but it kept crashing - thanks for the info on it though. So if anyone can help out with the pic I posted a few replies above that would be awesome. Thanks again.

Anyone you know?

everytimei 10-05-2008 06:51 PM

I have to say I'm amazed with the results and level of detail that you are able to extract.

Is this at all possible with Photoshop? I've in the past been able to x-ray photos with Photoshop, is it a similar technique if you know how to x-ray?

fla_cpl 10-06-2008 12:38 AM

I need to brush up on my xray technique. I used bridge to grab that thumbnail.

No thumbnail. :( I do like how they made the censoring to look like her shirt, though.

Read back through the thread. The way we are getting the uncensored images is by extracting the EXIF thumbnail from the JPG images. No thumbnail, no uncensored image. Your pic didn't have a thumbnail.

There are different programs that give you the EXIF information, which includes the thumbnail. Once you put the picture into the program, it tells you immediately whether the pic has EXIF info or not. Yours doesn't. It's a lost cause, I'm afraid. :(

Neither pic has EXIF info. Not sure what you were expecting to get with the smaller one...

Like I said earlier, this is kinda turning into another version of the xray thread.

Those that aren't quite computer literate, don't grasp the process of what is going on and think we are performing miracles w/ these pictures and start asking for requests on pictures that are no where near what is needed to do the uncensoring.

vidpro 10-07-2008 05:41 PM

Yep, agreed. My threads have been closed for a while, but check out some of the links in my signature. I provided tutorials on how to do some of this stuff.

I had to constantly post details about what could be fixed and what could not be fixed. I agree that some people just assume this kind of thing can be done with any image... but that's just not the case.

Anyway, if you want to see some good ol' fashioned censorship removal, check out some of my old threads listed below.

Explanation

Is there any way that someone could write a step by step instruction of how to do this using the Opanda IExif tool? I would be able to contribute then as I have a bunch I would like to try and do. Thank you.

You just drag the picture onto the program. If it has EXIF information, it'll pop up, including the thumbnail. If it doesn't, a window will pop up saying it doesn't.

If the picture does have EXIF info, including the thumbnail, right click the thumbnail, select "copy", and paste it into whatever image program you use (MS Paint, etc.). Then just save it and post it here, along with the original censored image.

If it crashed your copy, it's gonna crash my copy (and it did). Maybe somebody can try it with a different program?

Thanks
