Does anyone know how far it's going with the London pics?
It's just Monday now, only a few days after the ride, and my London 2008 WNBR folder contains now more than 280 different interesting (no men only pics) pics!!!

If it's going to be 'that' big, i will soon need a second external harddisk.
:D:D:D

Tomorrow i will look in my folder if i have some nice new pics to share here.

A couple from Portland, OR; another night venue where photography is difficult....

Stevin, if last year is anything to go by, the images keep coming for about a month, they just get less frequent! We also have Freemont next saturday and that is normally worth 200 good photos alone without any from Klondike!!! I suggest you start burning some CD's!

Another three from London,

I almost dismissed the first photo of the blue girl in thumbnail form (there are plenty around) and the pretty girl on left has a bikini bottom on......then I looked at the full image!:D That explains her rather shy smile!

And secondly a girl who really wanted to feel 'very naked', she even took her boots off!

Finally, the typical type of photographer that you always encounter at WNBR's in the UK, I just wonder what they do with the pics? Perhaps they are on some obscure islamic forum? They sure are not on Flikr, unless they are taking shots of the men!!

Here is a good example of what I said earlier about how hard it is to get good 'bush' shots at WNBR's. First shot....where is it? bugger, behind the handlebars again!

Second shot, same girl, how the hell did I miss THAT!!!!!

slagboy 06-16-2008 09:12 PM

LOL!

It's good to see that 2008 is the year of the pube!

Unfortunately, handlebars are usually going to be at about pube height - otherwise, the bike is too big or too small for the girl riding it.

I think we should bring back the unicycle :)

But there are those that LOVE these handlebar-hidden nudity shots! Fango, for example! So send all your hidden pube pics to him, or post them in the ENF forum in a separate thread. He'll love them :)

Perfect. This is just what I need. Someone who has already taken the time to download all of these London pics. Now if I could just get that person to post them all in a zip (or two or three or four).

move over London.....

This report from the Portland, OR ride deserves a read. As I suspected, the number of riders was HUGE!
But just how huge is anyones guess. 2000? 2500? MORE??? Read on.....

hxxp://bikeportland.org/2008/06/16/a-naked-ride-for-the-ages/
I believe that this ride last Saturday may have been the biggest WNBR EVER! So I encourage you all to read this little piece.

But not that this is a competition or anything for bragging rights. Its just something that EVERY city ought to strive for!

GO, PORTLAND! With a modest population of under 2 million, you have put many other cities to shame.

cheers,

Klondike

Great photo from Chicago WNBR

Really clear photos of both the pre-ride body painting and the actual ride from what looks like a professional site.

I have not posted any shots as they seem very protective about copyright...although the shots are not watermarked. The site is crap for those not on a high speed connection BTW! The shots are in a long strip and not thumbnails.

Portland OR
Now I have a problem, and one that may have a certain respected poster (beginning with a 'K';))here scratching his head! A new contributor at coccozella has just put up shots of this ride AND IT CONTINUED WELL INTO DAYLIGHT, if the shots are to be believed. If this true, it may be both the biggest and longest ride in the world! If only all of the USA were like the Pacific north west, I might even visit the USA:D

Here are a few I have modified to comply with the rules here.....

PS, check out the last shot, they have even provided mobile parking for your bike!!!!...and it is not that rail:o:o

Here are some more from Chicago. I'm pretty sure this is the biggest ride in the US--though this year's numbers aren't out yet it was probably bigger than the 600 they got in 2007. Consequently it's probably the best ride for photos. Even though most of the girls aren't fully nude, just by sheer numbers there are plenty of winners.

What's even more important is that the Chicago organizers seem to be OK with and even exploit the voyeuristic aspect to promote their cause. For example they have their own team of official photographers to document the event (including the painting party as Pedro posted) and then post them on the web, which is why I'm sure we'll be seing hundreds more photos in the coming days. Secondly, though I think they don't publicize the exact route until right before the event, they DO publicize a designated "viewing area" where they encourage spectators to gather and take pictures as the riders go by. This is in an extremely busy nightlife section of the city, and judging by the photos I've seen, it looks like the ride pretty much slows down to a crawl when it hits this section. Photos 1-6 were taken at the "viewing area" and you can see how people are just walking their bikes through a gauntlet of gawkers. I love the smiles on the riders faces as they pass by. They seem a little overwhelmed by the attention, but they're certainly enjoying it.

A couple more cool things about these photos. From other pics I know the girl in pic 1 started the ride with both sides of her chest fully covered by body paint. Apparently she didn't take into account that her strap would rub off one side completely. I can help but wonder if that's adding that little bit of extra self-consciousness I think I see in her smile.

I've seen a bunch of photos of the second girl with pasties on throughout the ride. I wonder if she lost them or took them off on purpose?

Two more from Chicago. A nice bw photo and then painting party pic. I've seen lots of photos of her from last year wearing pasties. Nice to see she took another step. Maybe she'll go fully nude next year...

The last two are from Portland.

A few more painting party pics. I love the foregrounded nips in pic2. Actually, I think they belong to the girl from the earlier Chicago post where I commented on how her paint had rubbed off during the ride. Notice the bandana? I wasn't lying.

Pedro, Portland actually has TWO separate rides. There is a MUCH smaller one the afternoon before the nighttime ride. I attended last year and it wasn't very good. THis year, I completely forgot about it but should have gone because the weather was better.

So Portland is may be the first WNBR city with not just one ride but two rides.
I also had the opportunity to see those Coccopics and had the same thoughts/questions by myself as Pedro had.
So thanks Klondike for the explenation. :)

What about having your girlfriend or wife in that situation??

You would be more ashamed or more excited of it?

Here some more.

You can never have enough naked bike rides in my book!:D But that explains things. The way the photos had been put up, it looks like the daylight ones followed the night time shots.

Thankfully Freemont is in broad daylight, how is the weather shaping up in your neck of the woods Klondike?

Pedro: Those are the ones I meant. To save, click on the link to his photostream page, pick a picture, and right-click (not left-click, or you get the larger version but as a spaceball!) and open "Properties" (down at the bottom). For the pictures from his photostream page it will give you a url that ends in "_m.jpg" and you simply remove the "_m" from the url to get the same size as you would see if you left-clicked the picture as described above. Unfortunately, after his first series of Chicago WNBR a couple years ago, profrob's pictures do not have the option to size up to the "_b.jpg" or "_o.jpg" versions. The larger size exists (big-time: if you click "More properties" at the lower right of the individual-picture page, you'll see the size of a typical one of these is 2112x2816!), but isn't available that I'm aware of.

Klondike: These are pc instructions; I understand you use Mac but you must have found a way to do the same thing. Would you be willing to post that technique too, so all the hip'n'happenin' folks out there (have I seen too many of those Mac vs. pc ads?) could also benefit? Thanks. Crispus

This is one of the best WNBR galleries on this planet! A nighttime ride but with daytime bodypainting! I can screen save the normal sized pics on my Mac (using Grab) but it is time consuming (and pics get saved as TIFF files, not jpg).

Lets get these pics up - in whatever way we can -

I didn't see this cutie posted yet. From another Chicago album.

So Chicago gets 600-100 riders and an open door policy towards photography.

Portland gets 2500 riders but the photogs have to be discrete.

So Portland's RIDE blows Chicago's away, but Chicago's PICS blow Portland's away.

Fremont's bodypainting session has moved indoors this year, so I won't be able to cover it. Weather is shaping up to be the usual northwest June crappiness. Pedro, London's and Seattle's weather is sort of similar...

But the riders WILL ride! It will still be 58-65 degrees and I don't think its actually going to rain...

I'm a bit curious about the amount of riders in the Chicago ride, because someone in a Dutch WNBR group posted the following message:

Time for a little post event de-brief...

The London pics are now drying up (after about 900 of them) and several things are quite noticiable.

The Flikr postings concentrating on women are down about 50% from last year and those on men up about 50%. Is this a direct effect of the restrictions on taking photos in the bodypainting area (brought in after some complaints of intrusive cameras in 07) or the fact that there were less women this year, or even the possibility that the ride has become a big 'gay fest' event?

A prominent rider from 2007, Erica Bower (Naturegirl) has posted a load of shots from the 2008 ride, which proves she was there, but I have seen nothing of her on the Flikr pictures:(. In the groups of men that fill this years ride, other naked girls can be seen (very much in the background), but those quality photos of girls on the web seem to concentrate on the same few ladies, time and time again, I wonder why?

I also know that on a big event (London was the only UK ride that did not grow by about 50% this year, but stayed the same at between 1000 and 1500 riders) you can miss things. On the Brighton ride pics I see fully naked women that I did not see on the day:mad: and I feature myself only on the odd occasional photo:eek:. So, if anybody actually witnesssed the ride London, do the photos give a true picture?

Having rambled on, here is my favorite sort of photo, the first taken at the start, the second at the finish......did you you lose something miss?

I'm not surprised they moved it back indoors. It was flickr pics of this from 2006 that first alerted me, and probably others, to the outdoor pre-ride bodypainting session. But they have never been completely comfortable with photogs there nor with the idea of holding it outside.

There should still be nudes in the park, but I don't want to get a lot of hopes up. I have commitments on Sunday and its going to have to be "in and out" for me this year. With the weather forecast not too good and me having some transportation issues, too - lets just say - I'll try..:)

Your comments about the London ride are noteworthy. The same number of photogs + fewer women would translate to more pics of men.

Good thing we had a fantastic output from Chicago to help pick up the slack.

From the offical WNBR site:

The fifth annual Chicago World Naked Bike Ride on Saturday June 14th 2008 was an overwhelming success, with an official participant count of 1700!

This count was calculated using a stationary elevated video record of the entire mass from head to toe passing a fixed point early in the ride, counted using slow-motion, repeated four times and averaged. The video was taken at the North East corner of Washington and Racine as mass left a traffic signal, using a crosswalk line as count point. Point was about 1.5 miles into ride from gathering area, about .5 miles from Union Park check-in point. Mass there averaged a dozen deep, passing about ten a second. Margin of error could be high, but certainly over 100 more joined the ride well after the count (many intentionally merging at the half-way viewing point) making 1700 a safe figure.

Others may review the count using the reference video on our photos page. Several preliminary photo albums, route map, and more are also there.

Cheers to everyone for their tremendous courage! I'd guess that over 90% were in briefs or less (and paint), and 5-10% of those were nude or bare-breasted despite risk, with gender mix not far from even. The mass included a marching-type band and several large music systems, over a dozen inline skaters, several skate boarders, many art bikes, and a rear-guard of trailers. As usual, participants have trouble describing the experience, with even gushing words like magical, miraculous, incredible, unbelievable, transcendent, and "best time of my life" barely sufficing.

Route covered about 14+ miles, and for our first time a text messaging group was used to broadcast our progress live. The throng of fans at viewing point (Belmont and Halsted) was exceedingly thick (compressing and lengthening the mass) and we arrived there fashionably late. Some 24,000 informational handouts were distributed en-route. Accidents, flats, and altercations with cars were few.

Huge kudos to the volunteers and coordinators who gave outstanding performance and dedication under pressure. Body painting capacity was more than doubled, and additional activities and more snacks and water were added. Also for the first time we rented porta-potties, and had a large after-party.

1700 nearly triples Chicago's 2007 turnout, and I would presume sets another US record. This year we intentionally under-publicized, to save on printing and distribution, to throttle growth and filter for earnest and repeat participants, and to focus on safety instead of growth. In modesty, Chicago's WNBR benefits greatly from sheer population, an active bike culture and clubs, 10 years of Critical Mass, bike friendly city government, good weather on ride day, and especially being a night ride.

ANYONE WITH PRESS clippings or TV NEWS captures of the Chicago ride PLEASE retain and reply. Don't assume we already have it. I'm told I was on TV again this year, but have yet to see it.

Finally but foremost, boundless sincere gratitude goes to mayor Richard M Daley and to the Chicago Police for their acceptance and facilitation of this ride. This and other massive local rides tangibly show Chicago's ongoing commitment to being a notably bike-friendly U.S. city
