Limewire

Limewire still works, but there are several issues:

1. You need to use an older version to search. 4.2.x or older
2. The old versions (2-3 years ago) would scan you hard drive for photos, music, videos and documents. The default was to share "all files" and many folks unwittingly shared some pretty private stuff they didnt intend too. Unfortunately, Limewire fixed this in subsequent versions. As more folks upgraded to newer versions, there were fewer inadvertent file shares available. Plenty of stuff previously downloaded, but not as much fun as getting it from the source.
3. Limewire is basically under court order to shut down - so few people sharing.

I'm using from time to time Shareaza and i'm happy with it. Tried once Limewire, Kazaa and Bearshare, but they sucks for me, especially when i got unwanted adware problems. When using Shareaza, you have to be carefull using the right version, as there are 2 versions still existing. The one and only real Shareaza is available through the open source network portal Sourceforge. Once there was also a direct website, donated by a French guy but at a certain moment he got lots of trouble with French law (illegal downloading/uploading issues) and he had to get rid of that website (it was registered under his name) and unwanted it became property of an commercial American party. (bearshare??)
Shareaza works with Gnutella, Gnutella2, Edonkey (Ed2k) and Bittorrents, but if anyone has suggestions for other networks and clients, i may try those.

I think P2P is almost dead now, emule is good because you can find lot of old content but dl speed is veryyyyy slow and files are often uncompleted.Torrent is faster but hard to find old content with seeder.
Now everyone is using direct download, way faster, no seeders needed and also way safer than p2p , only incovenient is files often got deleted but it still the best way to download.

how does direct download work?
Is that the same thing as rapidshare, hotfiles etc?

direct download simply means directly downloading the file from a found web site index page or a file uploaded to a storage site like rapidshare, etc... i.e. .... right click, save target as. in other words downloading files without going thru some installed search or download program.

so is there anything revolutionary that is coming soon? I still use Emule from time to time since it still is around and hasn't been shut down. I remember Kazaa, Morpheus, etc. back in the day, but now i'm not sure what is the latest and greatest.

I know this is a pretty much dead thread. I used Limewire years ago, strictly for music downloads. I was excited the day I found out that I could get Limewire Pro for free. People that paid for Pro, apparently had the pro version in their shared folder, so all you had to do was search for the latest Pro version. I accidently stumbled upon the fact that you could browse shared folders for pics/videos that probably weren't meant to be shared. Had a good time with it for a while before it faded away. Too bad I didn't stumble across it in the beginning. Anyway, I still have the old pro version. I use it at work, and hardly find anything. Usually the same users over and over. I have more success at home, but I don't get the chance to use it very often. Miss them good old days. I liked the simple cleavage pics better than the hardcore stuff.

i've had some pretty good finds on soulseek over the years. it's still used by a lot of people and is really easy to use although it's search feature could be better.

Other ways?

Intalling a program on you computer is the only way to find such picture or vid's?
