Portsmouth (UK) rides a week on Saturday, from FB expect the usual cockfest with only one female rider confirmed..... and she lives nowhere near the city!
Portsmouth has a huge Uni, including a famous nude calendar, but students almost never ride and if they do, the girls ride in bikinis. Maybe this year will be different and it's the first UK ride of 2015. |

The first ride is 8 days away, so weather forecasts do not apply that far ahead in the UK! Here is a list of all UK rides, recently updated, PLEASE can OCC UK based members dust of their DSLR cameras and make a little effort to cover as many of these rides as we can! Nude photos of cute chicks does not any easier than these ride!!!! hxxp://wiki.worldnakedbikeride.org/index.php?title=UK#May Quote:
Some are HUGE (Brighton and London) others OK, like Cardiff and Manchester, while some are just some old nude guys on bikes! Use the above guide links to check out the FB links (provided for most rides) for numbers and M/F rider count. Obviously, there will be more folks than listed, but FB is a good guide to the sort of crowd who will turn up and usually gives start and route info. You will make many people happy if you get exclusive photos and you will take NO RISKS as long as you are polite and remain outside the riders personal space. Its NOT a crime to photo these .....YET!! |

Some advice please
I never visited any of these rides but intend to attend the one in Portsmouth (just over the hill) this weekend. Which places is the best for taking pics? the start and end points? I assume it is not possible to follow the riders?
From what I have read here, I assume I must not expect too much from Portsmouth, hopefully these will be something at least! Will try to go to the Southampton one as well. Thanks |
Go to the start/finish area. Riders will be there for some time both before and after the event, don't lurk about, go and be sociable!
Always ask permission when taking specific riders photos, if you have been chatting, they seldom refuse. If you stand opposite the park area entrance, you will get some good cycling shots at the start and finish. If you do not have a bike, Portsmouth is not easy to follow, with only a brief stop or two en-route. Good Luck, the weather looks better for Saturday, so there may even be some female nudity!!!! |
Thanks for that!
Anyone else here who will be going? |
re wnbr 2015
Planning to go to London and Brighton rides hope to get a ton of pics just hope the weather is like brighton ride last year
|
Great News!!!
Portsmouth's ride this weekend has had a huge surge in FB numbers and at least 20 of the almost 100 folks intending on riding....are college age girls! Word seems to have been circulated, as numbers have quadrupled in a week, let's just hope the clothes come off too. Add to that the, forecast is now for warm (18c) sunny spells and light winds too, so the gods of nudity are smiling on us! I don't think I can get there, so hopefully the posters already mentioned on this thread can rise to the challenge. |
It's a warm and sunny day on the south coast of the UK, let's hope the weather will encourage some lovely ladies to loose their inhibitions this afternoon and at least two OCC members make the ride to record it! I have to work, so will miss it, despite it being on my doorstep.

Portsmouth - Huge disappointment!!

There was only ONE lady and it was good that she did not remove any clothing!! :(:(:(
Some ladies on the sideline happily snapped away, especially the one in jeans, would have better if she joined the ride!! :p The look on the last lady's face was priceless when she saw the ride :eek: That is all that I can offer from this ride, and the weather was very nice, what a shame!! |
There's a video on YouTube. I'm not going to bother linking it, because what it reveals is that the grand total of 0 ladies rode the ride in any state of undress. There are two fully-dressed women, but seriously who cares.

I have been on some early Portsmouth rides, and they have often had only one or two naked women, but never none! I hope this is not setting a trend for the coming six week bike ride to season.

What about Southampton?

So, what's the deal with Portsmouth? Why do so few (read: no) women participate in that ride? Is it just a really conservative city?

Portsmouth has struggled to attract anybody except the usual male exhibitionists who turn up at every ride, like the guy with his penis cage. In the past extreme Christian groups have tried to stop the ride and even the threat of violence was made, but never acted upon. The police supported the ride organisers.
Several ladies have ridden fully nude, but seldom more than two or three per year. Some ladies who have ridden naked in other rides had said they were attending, but either failed to show or remained dressed. I think this ride and the other smaller rides in the UK will never grow to London or Brighton size, those two have a very different sort of population to Portsmouth. I am sure only the weather will ruin the big UK rides and this abboration of a ride is not a portent of WNBR events in 2015! |
I share the disappointment of other members about the Portsmouth ride. Let's hope it doesnt grow into an all-male sausage appreciation fest. I carry this concern for all rides in Britain in particular...Let's hope London can set the record straight.

WEATHER!
WTF with the British weather right now. IT'S ALMOST 'EFFING JUNE!
I am really hoping Brighton will be an amazing ride in 3 weeks time! The sunshine needs to get a bloody move-on! |
That year has gone by quickly. Have been looking at Canterbury and Hastings. Did the latter last year. It was what you'd expect from one of the small rides but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Probably won't do either this time. The weather looks decidedly poor - the minor rides struggle for numbers even under glorious blue skies. Canterbury 2014 was quite odd. There are shots from before the start - looked like a relatively high turnout with a good deal besides the usual 'every ride' participants. But the shots of the riders out there on the road suggested a much smaller number - unless the group got divided, as per London last year.
Thinking of having a different approach to London this time. The start at Hyde Park was absolutely awful last year. Everyone cramped under the trees while a huge mass of tourists elbowed each other for a glimpse of naked flesh. The end was almost as bad. A large number of riders seem to be covered up at the start and finish, and it's kind of understandable. Hoping to do the Lincoln's Inn Fields stop this time round. The riders seem a lot more relaxed away from the madness of Hyde Park and Wellington Arch. Might do the Regent's Park start and then go on to Lincoln's Inn. Not sure. Brighton is the best UK ride by a massive margin, IMHO. Who can forget the fantastic weather and very large turnout of 2014, particularly the dancing in the fountain. This time I'm hoping to also do the Hove Lawns rest stop - but quite a lot depends on the weather. The warmer and more pleasant it is, the longer the rest stops as people tend to queue for an ice cream etc. A nice day also means a good turnout for the end of ride skinny dip. My 2014 haul from Brighton was the only WNBR set I've got thus far that I wasn't disappointed with. Could have done better, and the harsh midday sun certainly didn't help, but the end result was OK. Got a lot of positive comments from the riders, which is always nice. |

If u can squeeze in the waterloo stop as well then you are laughing :) Regent's park to Waterloo on the tube. Then jump back on to Holborn and meet the ride at Lincoln fields |

You can never really tell with the London ride. Last year there were stops all over the place, mostly not planned. The riders got back to Wellington Arch in three distinct groups. The unpredictable nature of this one is why I've stuck with the start and finish in years gone by. But last time it was just awful at both ends.

spots
you could always just ride them. that way you'd be with the ride the whole way.
The start and end of the brighton ride are quite special but with london head to lincoln's inn as this is a long(ish) stop most years |
erection
A news story today says a man had to be removed from a ride in Kent as he had an erection
It won't allow me to post a link so if someone else can |
Canterbury cyclists given stiff warning ahead of World Naked Bike Ride
Quote:
httx://www.kentonline.co.uk/canterbury/news/canterbury-naked-bike-ride-17886/ replace the x with a p from the link: organiser Simon Terry said: "Regrettably, we were let down by a small minority of the participants in the 2013 ride, who ignored our requests and also behaved inappropriately. ... Mr Terry added: "If you are thinking of coming to the start or finish area not to participate but just because you 'like seeing naked girls' (as one creep told the media last year) the police have been informed and have been asked to remove you." ... And in a "special and important message to male participants", Mr Terry added: "Should you become aroused, you WILL pull over to the side of the road and cover yourself or dress immediately. "The nudity is specifically to draw attention to how vulnerable cyclists are when riding alongside motor vehicles, not to draw attention to you as an individual. Nudity in the Canterbury World Naked Bike Ride is NOT an excuse for self-exhibitionism." ... Concerns raised last year included reports to police that a man had an erection. |
yeh that's the one, not sure who it was or if it was one of the regular guys.

Tips for taking pics
I'll be participating in my first ride in Portland and will try to take pics while there is still light out! I'll be wearing tight, short undies. Any tips for taking? (I'm looking at you Pedro and Klondike). I'm 30, fairly good looking and not obese or hairy.
I plan to have an ok camera - hxxp://store.sony.com/cyber-shot-digital-camera-rx100-iii-zid27-DSCRX100M3/B/cat-27-catid-All-Cyber-shot-Cameras?_t=pfm%3Dcategory I hear they hate photographers at the Portland ride, but I think I'll be ok since I'm a participant. Will it be better if I go completely naked in order to take pics or will bring a participant in underwear be enough? |
My tips? Do not try to snap everything, enjoy yourself, it really is a fun event! The less clothes the better, some women are very happy to pose for a fellow naked rider, but will call a clothed spectator a 'pervert', if they ask!
I doubt if I can ride this year, as I am awaiting knee surgery, I am slightly nervous at turning up with a decent camera (for a change!) and being one of the many clothed snappers. Might go and keep my distance...I do have a good zoom! |
'Amy' from Brighton not doing the 2015 ride..

Fango and Klondike. Do you guys think I'll run into any trouble snapping shots of I keep my undies on? Just trying to do what I can to take good pics when I go. |
I think I found the solution to the problem of being suspected of pervery at WNBRs. Talk to people. Say a few words. I don't mean go and chat up the pretty girls :p I spoke to loads of people in London and Brighton last time and had no problem whatsoever with any of the participants. But I did have people frequently wave and spontaneously pose later on when they recognised me from earlier.
It quickly became obvious to me that most of the riders dislike people being surreptitious or overbearing. The more overt your equipment, the better, I think ;) It's also good to have a chat with the stewards. The riders see you doing so and I think this also puts them at their ease if they later see you snapping. Always have respect for people's personal space. Assume nothing. The more pushy people were, the less they got. Brighton in particular was a great day. It's not often you have 19 year old identical twins insist you go and take pictures of them and their friends. I obliged, of course. Would have been ill mannered not to :D Agree with Pedro - at the big rides, your first instinct is to run about snapping madly. That's pointless. You'll get good shots. And you'll get loads of walkthroughs and other frustrations. But just go for what catches your eye as if it were a carnival or any other event. Remember that this is after all primarily a protest and awareness raising event. Wearing a pro-cycling or pro-green issues tshirt is a good idea. Something this simple marks you out as a supporter of the cause. By going about discussing the various issues with people, I found myself getting loads more shots than I had previously. It wasn't a ploy, it just happened like that and you find yourself understanding why people do these rides a lot better. Of course, there are those who just like to get naked in public and fair play to them :p But I noticed over and over again that the people who were there to just ogle people and take bum and boobs shots got a very frosty reaction, as you'd expect really. |
