yes, indeed, it appears that we have a new World Record Skinny Dip from Vera Playa Spain. The numbers they put in the water are 729. Great news!
The pics below were linked to by a user who posted in the Public nudity events list project thread. Once again, can we try to make an attempt to post pics rather than links here? More and more, the trend seems to be for people to simply link to galleries. These are pic threads, guys. If the photos are not copyrighted, try to upload at least a few if you can. thanks - Klondike |
Also, take note of the fact that the annual AANR simultaneous skinny-dip record attempt was held just last week on July 13th. Read this below, taken from the AANR page:
"The third World Record Skinny-Dip is set for July 13 (2013), just a few months away. This year’s event is the first to be jointly hosted by AANR and The Naturist Society. The first World Record Skinny-Dip in 2009 saw 13,674 people simultaneously skinny-dipping across North America. In 2010 we beat our own record. Can you remember or guess the total number of people simultaneously skinny-dipping in the World Record Skinny-Dip of 2010? Post your answer in the comments section below. The person who guesses the correct number will win a 2013 World Record Skinny-Dip t-shirt." This means that there ought to be some pics floating around the net now - pics from Haulover, maybe Wreck, maybe some other major beaches, as well as some clubs too. Be on the lookout... Klondike |

Had to postpone
the event here in S. Florida :( due to really crappy weather that weekend. Thunderstorms and lightening. Too risky.

As I see all the pictorial evidence of yet another kind of mass public nudity event I'd never heard of before, all I can think is... the world really is changing, isn't it? I wonder how many humans around the globe can say they've been in one of these things, whether they're skinny dips or runs or bike rides or protests or parades, Tunick, etc..-- I mean, I wonder what the total number would be. A million? Maybe I'm spending too much time on OCC and my sense of reality's getting skewed... I'd be fascinated to hear somebody's estimate though.
I've noticed a fair number of recently published science fiction stories including casual nudity in their image of the near future, and not for shock value, but just as a sort of natural development. Maybe they're onto something. Sorry, I felt I had to indulge in one rambling post like this, it's out of my system now... |
It seems like these events are becoming more publically accepted but I don't think we are entering a brave nude world just yet. There is a small but significant degree of overlap - I spot faces I recognise from one event to the next, and hear people talking about other events they've done, but I also talk to a lot of people who are doing it as a one-off, have never done anything like this before and would never do anything like this again. It just happens to be local, or for a charity they are committed to.
The original Naked Mile in the USA was growing quite big then got banned, now there are lots of smaller events at different colleges, but with a few (amazing!) exceptions you will only find a handful of women at any given college event getting totally naked in front of their fellow students, and probably the same girls year on year. The WNBR is very popular in a handful of cities and the combination of body-paint, weight of numbers and the speed you travel at gives more people the confidence to go naked, but again in any given year there are only a few thousand participants worldwide and only a fraction of those are fully naked females. Tunick seems to be scaling back these days, doing more small-scale artistic pieces rather than the spectactular urban skinscapes he is known for, possibly due to the economic climate and less money available for cities and museums to commission him. Young people have always and will always find excuses to get naked at festivals, concerts, parties and parades. The nudist community is consistent and stable in terms of numbers. Fully nude and mixed sauna, spa, beach, lake and river bathing remains common throughout mainland Europe and elsewhere in the world, even though in Anglophone countries it remains a very limited niche community. TV, movies, art performances become more nudity-friendly over time as censorship and moral policing decline with the advance of progressive liberalism and information entitlement, and people getting used to the new boundaries as they keep moving. There are still huge areas of the world with a conservative (some would say intolerant) attitude but they are closing themselves off more and more from the rest of us. We see a lot of pictures of a lot of beautiful women participating in a lot of events, but that is because any such picture is bound to end up here. What you see on OCC isn't the tip of the iceberg, what you see here is pretty much the whole damn iceberg, at least as far as the UK/USA/Canada/Australia goes. Luckily there are lots of things going on in the rest of the world which occasionally surface here and blow our minds - like my Ukrainian winter bathers, or the recently highlighted Catalonian nude run. (I too apologise for the rambling, I know most people are here for the pictures, but it was an interesting question!) |
Thanks DD for the thorough (and fast) answer. Didn't want to hijack a thread, but there didn't really seem to be a place to raise a question instead of posting pictures. I didn't think a lot of people were making a habit of naked events, but even doing it once leaves a strong impression on people, as Tunick vets will say. I thought that effect might spread out into the world, and change the general mindset in a decade or two, not right away, sort of a hidden delayed impact....

Or have I just been in all the wrong places at all the wrong times? It's entirely possible.... Some medical crap took me out of general circulation a few years ago... Sorry moderators........ |
The festivals and parades etc probably only started in the counterculture of the 60's but I've read accounts here and there on the internet of parties and private gatherings where nudity was an occasional feature at US colleges even in the 40's and 50's, its just back then no-one would ever acknowledge them. The problem is most of us didn't get invited to those parties, and it is only in recent years with the internet that we have become aware of things which are going on at other colleges or even the ones we went to! Now it's very easy to find out everything that is going on everywhere, so we have no excuse for missing a thing. I wish I was 18 again!

Since people keep posting it here, I'd just like to point out that the video "Skinny Dip - Guinness World Record Gisborne 2013" was already posted a week ago in the thread dedicated to that event:

part of the incentive to dip was the handing out of sarongs to people so they could clothe themselves before coming back in. |

The first wave of swimmers was a "media wave". There were heaps of cameras taking photos going in and coming out, but only for the first wave. After that, the media was kicked out for subsequent waves. There must be loads of pics out there of the first wave. Not sure how many will make it onto a site like this thoughAttachment 6065807
