Melbourne seems a bit different

Back in the 80's the recognised beaches in Sydney used to be full of attractive women. Since then, scare tactics over skin cancer, thinning ozone layers and a fear of being labelled a pervert has greatly affected attendance. Most beaches are now 90% gay or single male, when it used to be about 60%.

The Sydney Harbour beaches of Cobblers, Obelisk (99% gay anyway) and Lady Jane have all lost most of their sand, so they almost disappear at high tide.

Most ocean beaches are so big that nude people are spaced quite thinly. It would be impossible to get close enough to get good photos in these circumstances.

Alexandra Bay in Noosa (Qld) and Maslins in SA are good beaches, but taking good photos would be very hard.

Thankfully, topless appears to still be quite common on our 'regular' beaches.

Our other problem in Sydney is that we've had two rainy summers in a row.

Fortunately for Melburnians Sunnyside seems to be different and there are a number of good looking women there on a hot day though they are nearly always with a male or part of a group whereas a few years ago there weren't so many. Interestingly topless doesn't appear to be as common on regular beaches as it was and unfortunately like Sydney we have had very few hot weekends in the last 2 years.

I have to admit, when we were on Obelisk Beach, my wife was the only female there. The guys all kept to themselves and were very polite. We had one of them take some shots of us together.

Cobbler's, though, had a very balanced population of people; although, older.

Hey Soot,

Google tells me that Nedlands is in Western Australia, so maybe your photo is from there. I'm told that my photos are from a beach in the same part of the world.

I have a few more

The babe with the trimmed triangular muff has a beautiful smile. If the Australian Tourist Board used her as their spokesmodel, the place would be swarming with tourists

I've always liked beach beauty contests

Provided, of course, all the contestants were regular beach-goers, not professional ladies.

I've found a few contest pictures from Maslin's beach, which google tells me is in Southern Australia. Anyway, all the ladies in the contest seem real dinkum amateurs.

Just a few more

Here are a few more to finish the set

Well, the last photo is from a different set, I guess, but it must be taken on an Australian beach because one of the girls has a Kangaroo on her hat.

No mate, not a real Kangaroo.

Yes Nedlands is a suburb of Perth and the beach is called Swanbourne which may help with other searches. These are great photos and so are the ones from Maslins Beach, the best collection of photos from Australia that I have seen. Sadly though I have to say that generally speaking the women of the 80's were better looking than those of today but fortunately there are still some good ones around.

dugan5000 03-26-2012 04:16 AM

Thanks and comment on women of the 80s

Firstly, thanks for the pics. I don't think the problem is that the women of the 80s were better looking, the problem is that they're the same women at the beach now!

Good fishing spot

You are right, if there is any it is very well hidden. I think he put it in to show the general area. It brings back memories for me as I used to fish off those rocks quite often, it's a magical place.

Further more, it hasn't helped that most retail stores are now open all weekend, where as back until late 80's stores were opened only till 12/1.00pm Sat... When i worked in the retail industry, those half Saturdays were staffed by casuals and just one permanent staff member... hence the rest of permanent staff had the whole weekend off. Happy Days!!!

Now with the 'wages penalty rates' abolished to some extent, most of those permanent staff are now required to work on some/most weekends and given a day off during the week.
Weekend trade is huge on weekends now, and so the busier the stores get with shoppers the more staff are required on deck, and hence the less babes are to be seen on beaches.

We still may have close to the same numbers going to the beach as before, but they are just spread over the 7 days instead of all going on the w/e like in the old days

Some posted before on other threads, most not.
Unfortunately not very good quality, but hopefully atmospheric enough as to how pleasant a warm day by Sydney harbour can be......
