I'm not a prude i know it's natures best and breast is best and all that but i can't sit in the same room as a woman breast feeding, It's hard enough for me to sit in the same room as a woman i've been intimate with whos kids are there as well. Obvioulsy i don't mean we did while they were there, sex and motherhood are two things i keep seperate even though without sex there is no motherhood. Weird i know! we're all a product of sex and flesh. But i'm the sort of person who has to find a tree in the middle of nowhere if i'm caught short for a piss.

One time my wife and I were invited to a friends house and there was a couple there that just had their 2nd child. We all went to the same church but this couple takes their christian faith very seriously (later they went into the mission field) and are very modest in everything, or so I thought. When it came time to feeding the new baby, the mother just whipped her tit out in front of everyone and proceeded to feed the kid, no embarrassment on her part at all, although her husband didn't look too comfortable with it. Shocked me but I wasn't complaining, no one said anything about it.

I wasn't around when my wife had her kids (I'm her 2nd marriage) but she said she always had a blanket over her shoulder when feeding to cover everything which is actually bold for her.

I was in a coffee shop and there was 3 women with kids at a table nearby. I glanced over just as one of them yanked a big ol tit out and plugged her kid on. She looks up and sees me looking and says "Getting a good look or do you need a picture?" I muttered "b*tch" under my breath and picked up my phone and aimed it at her like I was going to do it. I told the old lady and her friend about it and they agree the woman was provoking it. Of course they also said I am an asshole for jacking her up by acting like I was going to take a picture. Ah well, a day in the life . . .

There are a lot of people in my area who breast feed in public .
Somehow the breast feeding takes the sexy out out the naked breast.
If breast feeding was sexy there would be a bunch of candid photos of people breast feeding and I don't think I have ever seen any.

but because of the current phobia about children and any sort of nudity many websites wont

I think that most of these women know EXACTLY what they are doing. Women are natural exhibitionists and I firmly believe that exposing themselves this way is exciting to them and breastfeeding allows them cover. No. Most women breast feeding have no erotic intent or response at all. Most try to cover up in public (at least in western countries where breasts are usually covered). Among family or close friends, they might just whip it out and nurse in plain view.
Seen plenty of women breast feeding in both situations. Eroticism is NOT on their minds.

i agree with your wife and her friend that she was provoking it and you were being an asshole, but you can't be arrested for taking a picture of someone in a public place. she is in public, so she has no expectation of privacy. it's a chance she took when she started feeding. worst case is the manager could have kicked you out for starting shit with other customers. sorry to go slightly off topic. i just wanted to let you know.
