Well shit, I guess I should have brought my camera to work. They rode past my bar twice (at night in Portland). A bunch of customers ran outside to watch it. I mean, it was dark out, and the guy-girl ratio was at least 10-1 but there were still some nice tits out there. Also I would have been the weird guy standing in the corner taking pictures out the window instead of serving customers, but hey, I have my priorities straight.

So the first wave shut down traffic on Burnside for a good twenty minutes, (cars were backing up to take alternate routes), then a bunch of them came back around for a second pass, this was around 12:00. I got off at 1:00 and there were still small groups of them biking around naked. I waited at my bus stop, where this drunk bum was standing, and a group of riders with several good-looking chicks had to stop in front of me for a red light (cops everywhere btw). The bum starts shouting at the naked riders, and they say "get naked, man!" And he says "I dont have a bike" And one of the chicks says "You don't need a bike to get naked", and the bum whipped out his dick and they all cheered. It was kind of gross and hilarious at the same time.

But the best part was later, seeing all these girls riding bikes and wearing disheveled clothes, like it was obvious they'd hastily put them back on. That was just kind of hot, because they knew as well as I did that everyone had just seen them naked, but since they had gotten dressed they seemed more embarrassed to be ogled. They were in a weird place, no longer naked yet not quite clothed either. I got back to the eastside, across the river, at 1:45 and there were still naked and half-clothed cyclists roaming around.

This was the fourth year I've witnessed the naked ride in Portland (working at a bar that closes late at night helps), and was easily the biggest turnout yet. I never bring a camera because A) I'm at work, and B) the number of dicks outweighs the number of tits. Naked guys on skateboards = :(

more like 3:1. Maybe 4:1. the pics I've seen so far bear that out.

This ride was possibly the biggest naked bike ride in the history of mankind. :) It took 20-30 minutes just to get it rolling at the start, meaning the last riders left a full 20-30 minutes after the first riders. Everyone rode out to the accompianment of a drum corp and a guy with a whistle who acted like a drum major. Future rides might need bullhorns and walkie talkies to coordinate.

Under 25 naked babes were everywhere, literally rubbing shoulders with each other, guys, spectators, everyone. Spencer Tunick would have been proud to attend and photograph this monstrous assemblage of flesh. And after the ride ended, a pretty good number of these babes walked right into the dance party without so much as putting on a sock.

As the riders returned, one fully naked babe was offering free hugs to other riders. This means, next year I RIDE!

Now as for the photography - many riders had small cameras with them, but if you were on the sidelines with a big camera, you were not very welcome at the ride. I have learned this two years in a row. So I only have a very small number of pics which I will post soon. What I heard, actually, was that along Burnside avenue, the group of riders was so massive that they pretty much were ground to a halt. That made them sitting ducks for sidewalk photogs and flash users too. I suspect that many internet pics you will see will have been taken along Burnside.

And although this year the police acted as escorts and were very friendly, I do wonder what will happen if this ride continues to grow. I don't really think it could get much bigger without starting to cause some problems (a la Bay to Breakers). And some women expressed discomfort at the scene along Burnside Ave, near where the drunks and homeless hang out, and where supposedly backsides were getting slapped by unruly spectators.

but all in all, wow! - I mean, last night I confess i had a little trouble sleeping, despite the late hour. You tend to replay these things over and over in your head....:)

Unfortunately, I'm doubtful that Chicago will yield as many amazing pics as last year. The temperature was in the 50's (fahrenheit) in Chicago last night and for your Europeans that's more like October or November weather than summertime. I would have to imagine that cut their size down immensely (if you recall last year because they had a method for counting their riders they were officially the largest in the US). Also, I checked their website and among other things they were suggesting riders bring clothes in backpacks in case they got too cold during the ride. They also said they were going to shorten the ride and shorten the pre-ride painting session, which if you recall is where a lot of the pics came from.

That said, assuming they follow the same policies as last year, they're probably the only ride to utilize official photographers, who are authorized to take pics of naked people before, during and after the ride and put them on the internet for the sake of publicity (most of the photos that ended up on here were from those photographers). Most of the pics that made it to OCC were from these guys. So we can be sure that whatever nudity there was, we'll see it.
