Buzzhead, thanks so much for posting the improved version of this scene (though I recently finally got the DVD). This is my all-time favorite stripping scene. Found it very powerful and plausable; in fact, it is based on a true incident (as discussed in the director's commentary on the DVD). I recently had the pleasure of getting an email response from the actress whos played "Sandy Dawson" in "Suburbia" - Julie Winchester (I contacted her through her website www.juliewinchester.com). Here's what she had to say about the scene:
Hi, even though that was a very long time ago I remember that particular scene very well where I got my clothes ripped off I was scared shitless pardon my french!! No one in the cast was a real Actor they were real punks, Penelope the director wanted the real thing to portray punks at that time!! So, needless to say, I was really nervous about them getting to violent, those screams were real terror!!!! We could only do the scene once because they only made one rip away dress so it was one take!!!! It wasn't hard for anyone to get into character so to speak!! I agree with you about the conservative me in the other scene, quite a different girl from sl*t to church girl!!! The band was not playing for real during the scene! Penelope spheres was great to work with she treated me very nicely I was barely 18 at the time I did that movie and had NO experience and she was great!!! I remember the audition consisted of meeting with her and roger all I had to do was strip naked and scream, I guess I sripped and screamed better than the other girls HA HA HA!!! I hope I answered all your questions!! I'll have to watch that again it's been over 20 years since i've seen it!! Thought you might appreciate a look at Julie some twenty years later - still smoking hot in my opinion. Always wondered WTF that character in her frilly pink dress was doing at the punk show anyway. I've seen her described as "a rich b*tch slumming", "a rich Orange County girl", "a cheerleader - prom queen type", I even saw one discourse where it was claimed she "represented" the disco era with it's frivolousness and fluff (AKA frilly pink dress) and it/she was violently shredded by punk. Interestign thoughts and a great scene - thanks again! Sceej |
Indeed, she is still hotter than Hell!
Thanks for the interesting background Sceej, and you're certainly welcome for the post. It's always been one of my favorites too.
If I recall correctly, the original clip was posted by Looker33, and some follow ups mentioned Julie Winchester and a link to her website. When I got there, "Whoa Nellie!" Whatta babe! Buzzhead |

Buzzhead - if you're so inclined, I have a yahoo group based on her career at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/juliewinchester. Also again, if you're interested, drop me a line at sceej56@yahoo.com and I can share some scorching pics that can't be posted here due to watermark issues! In any case, as a final thanks, feast your eyes on this one!
