We went to St Martin where toplessness is practiced on Orient Beach; but she wasn't digging it at all. There just weren't enough topless women around; and she didn't feel comfortable being one of the few women topless. Not the right venue for her to go topless.

We got there and all the women were either nude or topless. She contemplated her surroundings for a bit, and after meeting some friendly nudists, decided to make the jump: she took off her top. She was actually one of the least naked women around; so that made her comfortable going topless. She had never been openly topless before so that was a new experience for her, and in spite of her shyness she ended up enjoying it. Eventually she went all the way and got naked; but most of her day at Club O was spent topless. That was the right venue for her to go topless.

I recommend trying to find an isolated part of the beach first to see if she can be topless "privately." As a second resort try finding a nude beach (if she's game) because it might be less daunting for her to be topless where other people are nude. Formentera has a nude beach.

Not as much as there used to be.

Wife and I were in Spain a couple years back and I was surprised/disappointed by the lack of toplessness, especially since I was told full nudity is legal on all beaches. This may be the case, but that was somewhat difficult to find also. We did eventually find a couple nice places on Formentera. I'm lucky in that my wife will go nude if there is even one other nude person on the beach. I think the poster above might be correct; it's the downside of the camera phone and internet.

My wife took her top off in Spain. There were other topless women on the beach but I'd say they were in a minority. My wife probably wouldn't have done it if there was a chance that someone she knew would be there.

I remember going to one of the canary islands, Tenerife I think, when I was about 17 with my family back in like 2005 and there were lots of topless women on the beach of all ages. Around 2009 I was in Mallorca and there wasn't so much of it on the beach near my hotel. Then in 2012 I was in Tenerife again and there was still a fair bit of topless tanning, but definitely less than in 2005. Luckily my hotel had an adults only pool which saw a few topless women round it, some of them in their 20's and 30's. I even managed to persuade my gf to try it (she's very reserved about that kind of thing) and she went topless, though literally for just a couple of hours and at a time when the pool was fairly quiet.

Also that summer the friend of a girl I went to school with posted a load of pics on fb from Ibiza I think, or a similar party island with a bunch of her mates. At that time you could still easily browse all the photos/albums a friend of a friend posted, and they'd clearly done a bulk upload, because half way thru the album was a lovely pic of the girl from my school sat on a sunlounger with her tits out, smiling for the camera. She'd have been about 22 at the time. She wasn't tagged in the pic and it was gone by the following morning, so I doubt many will have seen it. Yes I did take a copy, but no it's not going on here.

However, the reason for my question at the start is that a couple of years back I was on a Greek island, and I was saddened to see that topless sunbathing was virtually non-existant. Of the whole beach, it was literally just one or two middle-aged women, plus one day a group of local-looking girls sat in a more isolated part of the beach with 1 of them topless. Thong-bottoms seemed to have become popular which was some consolation I guess, but definitely no replacement for all those lovely, glistening sun-creamed titties that used to be all around.

Maybe it was just never as popular in the Greek islands, or maybe the Germans and other Europeans who are more prone to going topless tend to visit the Spanish resorts, I don't know - but I'm going to one of the Spanish islands this summer and really hoping it hasn't died out. I guess the prevalence of good quality, small cameras in phones etc. and the takeover of the Internet hasn't helped with girls' reluctance to go topless. I imagine the average, respectable student or 25 year old girlfriend who works in an office somewhere, doesn't like the idea that a video of them rubbing sun-cream into their tits, filmed from 100m away, could end up on a porno site being watched by 50,000 men including that guy from accounts and the old guy next door etc.

Greeks arent keen nudists, never where. Nudity only on really remote beaches.
In Spain the locals often go naked or topless - I suspect its partly a political demonstration of opposition to Francos rule which was really strict catholic and where you could get arrested for walking hand in hand with your fionce.

I was growing up in France during that post-Franco era. A lot of the toplessness that occurred during that era was from French and other European women who flooded the beaches and went topless and/or nude; since the legality of it had become "fluid." The local Spaniards at that point were not entirely happy about it.
My high-school sweetheart was one of those French women who went down to Spain and got topless on the beach. I think I still have a pic somewhere in my stash. It had become something of a trend.

Ironically, as toplessness fell out of fashion for the French, the new generation of Spanish women, who had grown up seeing topless foreigners on their beaches, started going topless themselves. While I was vacationing along the French/Spanish coast border, topless Spaniards outnumbered the French.
