The Naked Mile was an annual celebration started by some students at the University of Michigan. I believe it dates back to the '80s. Originally a sort of underground event that was more or less tolerated by the University and the local police, publicity on the internet led to huge crowds that came to participate, witness, and in some cases film it. The crowds got to be too large and rowdy, and the police began cracking down on it. In recent years, if its even being run, the Naked Mile has become a shell of its former self.
