To help reboot a dormant thread: after reading these posts, I',m remined of the brazilian film Oh! Rebuceteio!, directed by Cláudio Cunha in 1984.Anybody else know it?

It is the story of a driven theater troupe director who produces a play similar to the ones Uzynz Uzona present. It is a bit hard to follow for me since I don't speak Portuguese. Some of the themes is that of the director overcoming obstacles to stage his masterpiece, obtaining sponsors, working to inspire the actors and actresses to overcome their bondries etc.

One actress struggles to overcome her inhibitions so she can perform nude on stage. One segment shows the cast involved in a performance of a Bacantes type show. This actress successfully takes full penetration from one of her costars front and center stage!

Anyway, it is a interesting film and seems to very loosely parallel Teatro Oficina Uzyna Uzona.

Has anyone heard from rusty lately? I do hope he arrived in Brasil and was able to fetch some of the original recordings. Still looking forward to watch some of the shows in a somewhat higher quality than is available now.

Yes, an update from rusty60 is over due! Did his wife obtain a role in their productions? It would be great to hear about the goings on from an insider!

Anyone read the book "First Your Money, Then Your Clothes, My Life and Oh! Calcutta!" by the housewife turned actress Raina Barrett? In it she gives a first hand account of her participation in the first presentation of the ground breaking play, in terms of on stage nudity , Oh! Calcutta!

The director insisted that the rehearsals from the beginning be fully nude. She tells about the exercises the director put them through so they would be comfortable on stage in front of the audience and comfortable nude with each other. She stated that initially the director had in place a strict "no sex amongst the cast" rule, which due to the pent up sexual tension that built up between cast members lasted about one week! The director scrapped it and there where many liaisons!!! :eek: She thinks the scrapping of the "rule" helped with the casts ability to interact and enhanced the quality of the show.

You can't help but wonder what being in the cast of Uzyna Uzona would be like. All those nubile nude women! Hmm, Hmm Hmmm!:rolleyes:

I agree this thread seems to have gone very quite lately. Does that also mean that Uzyna Uzona / Teatro Oficina has also gone quiet? That seems unlikely, even if Brazil is a little less open politically at the moment than it was. Maybe the conversation about the company has moved elsewhere. Can anyone alert me as to where to keep up with this amazing theatre company? I'd love some more video links too.

I did manage to save a few photos from the company's Flickr album (there are sneaky ways to do so, even if copying is prevented), but as they are copyrighted I know I can't post them here. However, the one below doesn't have a copyright notice on it, and I did a lot of work in it in Photoshop to increase the contrast and show just how open-minded (and open-thighed) these company's productions can be!
