First, thank you very much for all you contributions. You really have downloaded some fantastic content here. Hitting the little "Thanks" button just isn't enough. Your compilations are fantastic as well.

I do have a question for you (and others on the boards, as well).

I'm curious about why posters .rar files when the file would not violate OCC's size limits. Why not just download the file directly. I ask about this because I picked up some viruses (on two different occasions) when downloading compressed files off of Rapidshare (via links provided on this site), even though Norton was set to actively scan all compressed files, regardless of their size. As an additional step, I manually scanned every one of these files I downloaded from Rapidshare before I extracted them. Yet, I still got the viruses. Norton didn't catch them until I did a full system scan. As a result, I've sworn off downloading all compressed files regardless of their source. Please understand that I am not implying that your files are embedded with viruses. In fact, I'm quite confident I have never picked up any viruses from compressed files I downloaded from OCC.

Maybe I'm looking for some guidance here as well. Are there others that have had similar problems? Are others hesitant to download compressed files?

I'm bringing this up here in your thread because there are some damn promising .rar files that I have chosen not to download, but I sure would like to. HQ023 looks incredible!!

Interesting observation, captain.

There are several reasons for the .rar files. One, I am a fool for consistency. I started posting the HQ stuff in .rar form due to the fact that some (though not all) are well over the 100MB limit and, it is easy for you all to know that it is HQ if it is in the .rar. Further, too many times I have tried to upload a large file only to have the OCC log me out before I could post it. With the smaller .rar files I have a greater chance of getting my upload through and posted.

Of course it goes without saying that I am relatively sure that my .rar files are without viruses. I know that I certainly did not add one so.......your choice. I'm sure I would have heard from folks by now if ant of my .rar files contained a virus.

Makes sense now. I can certainly understand the frustration of uploading a large file only to get kicked off in the middle of the upload. The ability to split files in this case makes the .rar format attractive for sure.

And please understand that I was just asking a general question here. In fact, if you're the one compressing them, I feel comfortable downloading them. Sometimes I'm not sure if folks are just passing along compressed files that they picked up somewhere else, but it sounds like that's not the case here, which makes me a lot more comfortable. (Not that passing along a compressed file is a bad thing, by the way.)
