Naked Virgin Mary Statue Offends Neighbors

4 Attachment(s)
Excerpt

A 33-foot-tall bronze statue of a naked, pregnant woman that stands on real estate mogul Aby Rosen’s luxurious Old Westbury property has been covered in black after neighbors complained that the artwork was disrupting their “bucolic views.”

The immaculate piece was conceived by British artist Damien Hirst and features a walking woman whose skin has been ripped away from the right side of her body, exposing skull, muscles and her fetus.

These kind of paintings are not the style that I usually like but the work of Adam Styka (1890-1959) cannot be ignored - a bit of titillation for the bourgeoisie

Contemporary Lithuanian artist Stanislav Sugintas - seems to have a thing about only showing one breast and apples - I like the surrealist edge to his work.

Frank Frazetta - always popular - great illustrator but is it art?

If Frazetta's fantasy pictures are very much in the muscular fantasy genre - these by Collete Trignac are more your weird SF style.

What If

famous paintings, such as Botticelli's Birth of Venus, were photoshopped to look like today's fashion models?

The answer is here:

Sadly, I can't post any samples because they are all watermarked.

The fantasy art of Spanish illustrator Luis Royo is always popular - stylish but perhaps too much of adolescent male fantasy to be art.

Ok - just to show that this is the most eclectic thread on OCC - here are 2 as different 20th century artists as you can probably find - the first 5 are by Archibald J. Motley Jr - American artist of the Jazz Age - the other 5 are by Dorothy Iannone - a rediscovered artist of the 1960s and afterwards - what do you think?

Continuing with the eclectic theme - These are by French-Canadian artist Francois Milville-Deschenes
