We were on the island of Mallorca this summer and visited a good number of beaches.
I would say that there were more topless women than I expected.
You could find a topless female on virtually every beach, but on more popular beaches the crowd would skew much younger and much fewer topless (maybe 1% or less). But the younger the crowd, the more thongs (maybe 30-40%).

With less populated/more rural beaches, the topless percentage was higher (maybe 5%), but also skewed a bit older and fewer children and fewer thongs.

On five or six beaches, we saw some nude folks. These beaches had even more topless (40-50% but kinda depends on what "area" of the beach you're at. And probably over 90% of the women were shaved.

Always hard to tell what's typical as I'm sure it depends of the time of year, temperature, day of the week and just who shows up that day. Definitely seemed like some topless women would encourage more topless women to join in.

I remember going to the Greek islands, not create, with my now wife back in 2005. Like you say the women with their tops on looked awkward and out of place. I really love to think how many of those young women in their 20s on that beach almost felt they had to get their tits out, maybe in front of male friends they'd gone on holiday with, and hadn't really thought about that before they booked the holiday. I really regret I was too dumb to book a mates holiday the next year, I would defiantly have seen some of our female friends' tits when they realised keeping their tops on was more awkward that let us see them.
I regret that fact, and the fact I never took any photos of my now wife topless with all the other tits in the background from then - I was such a dump 24 year old.

We're just back from Ibiza where we spent 10 days. There were topless women everywhere, on every beach and in some cases full nudes too.
As far you are from city centers (Sant Antoni, Eivissa,..) you may have more topless. Even, at some beaches there where more topless women as entire swimsuits or bikinis.
Also on private beaches and hotel pools.

The only place where it was not allowed was at the O Beach pool party. My wife asked if it was possible to remove her top and the answer was no.

Also, evey age was notices, younger, elder, middle aged... and mostly they were direclty topless , wearing no bra at all. For the few wearing a top, once it was removed they don't put it on again and stayed topless all the time.

So this is a good news, but we where at early summer so things might be different in July and August

Which beaches were best for toplessness?

Was it more than 50% of women topless?

Were there any mixed groups of friends there where all the women wee topless, or was it just couples and groups of women?

We are back in Aug .
Nude is allowed but anyone will be called out unless on official beaches .
Ive seen a girl undo her string to expose the arse but within 10 minutes someone came up and said no ..... which was a shame ( pictures if interested ) . Topless no issue but further on most beaches is a nono .

Has anyone been to Hawaii recently? Is this trend true there as well?

Just back from Sunny Beach in Bulgaria yesterday. Not a single topless female did i see. Not one. Went a wander down to the small nude beach and seen a few though

Which beaches were best for toplessness? every beaches ! Cala Salada / Saladeta, Cala Bassa, Cala Comte, Es Pouet, Cala Tarida, Em Bossa, Talamanca, Cala Olivera, Cala Llonga, Cala Llenya, Cala Xarraca, Ses Salines, Es Cavallet, Fomrmentera everywhere (Ses Illetes, Pujols, Calo des Mort, Els Arenals)...

These are all the beaches we went in 10 days there...
And depedening the day, the hours, the place where you go, it's everywhere between 30 and 60 %
The most nude was Cala Escondida close to the Cala Comte, with full nudes and topless, about 80% were or nude or at least topless.

Situation in the south of Fuerteventura was really bad. I can count on one hands the women I have seem topless this entire vacation of 1 week. Usually used to be a good 50% of women of all ages including 18yo. Now its a couple of old sags and thats it.
