Based on the posted pictures, I have say Brighton and Philly (followed by London and Seattle) are my fav's. Now if we could get some more East Coast USA/College town UK organized rides (Boston/Cambridge, anyone?) we could get a few more data points. Please? :D

In the short term, I'm sure we all want to see the video. In the long term... well, we all know what happened to The Naked Mile. I don't expect that will happen here, as NM only disappeared because of a university administration stepping in and putting an end to it; if the kids had their way they'd still be running naked every year and throwing things at the camera crews. The vast majority of WNBR riders (as we can tell from the photographs) don't mind being photographed, and in fact many seem to welcome it. If you check the facebook pages from the various rides, the posting of photo galleries is a highly anticipated part of the experience.

This whole DVD controversy nicely illustrates the WNBR's ambivalence about photography. If you look at the Philly WNBR page, the same people that are posting photos are also condemning the DVD. Obviously the devil here is in the details. Take and post pictures of me for fun and you're my friend; take and post pictures of me for profit and you're my enemy. Some may think that's a distinction without a difference, but understand the logic. The potential for exploitation here is a clear and present danger to what these events are all about. I kind of like the status of WNBR video/photography right where it is: restrained and respectful, and fully in step with the fun, sexy and socially conscious spirit of the event itself.

As the article states, they came posing as interviewers and ended up taking shots of genitals, etc. That is not something you can do without enraging riders because you are misrepresenting yourself for one, exploiting the entire situation for two, and three, just being....well....sleazy. PEriod.

No videos from WNBR should ever be sold for profit unless they are produced by the WNBR people themselves or have been contracted out to someone else by the ride organizers. It would be unconscionable for someone to do this without permission. I hope they take care of this little matter quickly and move on. Yuck..

To my knowlege, this has the 'tentative' approval of the organisers.

The video (as well as showing pretty much every rider, as they are full length films) does go to great lengths to promote the cause and has interviews with many of the organisers too. It is, however, sold for profit. I have never seen a full video, but I am pretty sure it does not 'dwell' on certain body parts.

As you said, I think the distinction is that it's done in cooperation with the organizers. Also, I believe vivrenue's mission--profits notwithstanding--is to promote naturism/body freedom, which syncs nicely with the WNBR agenda.

And as far as the "interviews" go, I can't help but wonder if this wasn't just a misunderstanding. I don't want to defend slimy profiteers, but there was some discussion on the facebook site that the interviewers identified themselves and handed out business cards--some said they knew who they were talking to and some said they didn't. And obviously if you're naked someone has a camera and microphone in your face, it's understood you're going to appear somewhere. Maybe they thought it was just going to be a youtube video, etc., rather than a somewhat sensationally marketed DVD.

Again, this is where the gray area comes in, but I think all three of us agree the filmmakers are on the wrong side of that line.

And Pedro, it says in smallish print on that link that the video will be released on September 20th.

And unless the filmmakers voluntarily cave in, I doubt legality will hold up the DVD. I think it's been well established in the U.S. that if you're doing something in public, anyone can tape you doing it and sell it for profit. The interviews might be a different story, but in these cases they usually just ask you if it's OK to use the footage, while they're taping. If you say yes, it's that's considered consent, and you've basically waived your rights to whatever you do on tape. That's how the whole G1rls G0ne W1ld thing operates. And as I said, the posts on facebook implied the cameramen did ask permission before they interviewed people. So even if these guys are wrong ethically, I believe the law is on their side.

All we need now is somebody 'stateside' to order it and then post some of the best clips to a sharing site (for us here) then!!!:D:D:D Seems a shame not to miss something like this;)

Some truly interesting youtube videos have cropped up today.

The first is a low-def (and low on the nudity unfortunately) "nude's-eye" video of the ride. Despite the lack of eye candy, it's really cool in that it spans the ride (in short segments) from beginning to end. You see the people undressing, then stopped in the middle of the street at stoplights while begin oggled by spectators, and we even see the naked girls cheering the riders as they go into the tunnel.

The next is an extremely high def (it tops out at 1080p if your connection can handle it) video of what appears to be the entire parade of riders passing by. I'm not a fan of the "fly-by" videos, but if you have a favorite girl you'll definitely see her here.

But this last video is an instant classic. First off, it's HQ at 720p. But the content is what makes this superior. Shot by a bystander, he not only captures the bikers passing by at the end of the ride, he mingles with them as they get dressed, pose for photos and generally hang out naked at the ride's endpoint in a public plaza.

A new Philadelphia gallery popped up today. Nothing extraordinary, but a few worth posting. The duo in the first pic are becoming fast favorites of mine. Not only did they ride fully nude, but we've got them in two different videos gleefully posing for the camera. I like their spirit as well as their bodies.

A couple more (distant) shots of the two girls who stood naked on the overpass cheering on the rest of the caravan as the entered the tunnel. Bold.

These shots don't give as good a view of the girls themselves as the shots posted earlier, but the wider angle gives a good sense of the context.

People like these dvd people can ruin the athmosphere for all of us. FYI an email from the Philly Organizers:

"We have some unfortunate news to report, and we need your help.

During assembly at Lemon Hill, a video production company called WAPtv (Wild About Philly) shot footage of a number of riders. As far as we know, no one was filmed without permission. WAPtv has produced and is selling a DVD of their footage.

We have seen this DVD and we feel that its content is not in the spirit of our event, and that the riders filmed were not informed that this video would be for sale publicly.

We have sought out volunteer legal assistance in order to halt the sale of this video. The next step for us is to identify those amongst you who are willing to pursue this on an individual basis. If you know you were recorded by WAPtv and do not wish to have your image distributed commercially, please reply to this email with your contact information and full name, include your telephone number please. Someone from the PNBR team will contact you via telephone and discuss the details. If you are unsure that you were filmed, or were not filmed, please do not respond to this email, we may be able to use your help, but we are going to start with riders who were filmed by WAPtv and may be included in the DVD for sale.

Do not reply to this message seeking comment from PNBR on this issue, or for any information regarding WAPtv or the above mentioned video."

The next question is how they determine if somebody did joined the Philly WNBR. Are they asking first for a photo and look at the DVD if the person appear in the ride? Or do they only sell to Philly residents? :confused:
So i think we now need as quick as possible an Philly area based OCC member willing to buy that DVD to share it with us. ;)

This is what it says now:

I interpret this to mean that if you can prove who you are then they will send you footage of "yourself" and yourself only.

So the one-million dollar question now is if there was anybody on this board quick enough and lucky to bought and get one copy of this dvd. :o

They weren't going to start shipping them until next week. I assume anybody who did purchase one got their money refunded.

Another sign that, despite lots of people speculating the bikers wouldn't win any legal fights, their opponents are knuckling under anyway; in a blog I found this reply to a post asking whether there was any problem with photographing the nudes:

Oh, and since we've kind of neglected them in the last few posts, a picture...

A guy from the WNBR ride in Madison mounted a camera on the back of his bike and filmed the first 40 minutes of the ride (until the battery ran out). You get a lot of views of naked guys riding bikes, but there are also times when you get good views of the female riders (some of them nude) from the viewpoint of a bicycle seat. I think he did a great job of capturing all the riders (there were only 100 I think) by riding in various parts of the group. I obtained the original from him (4 GB file) with the intention of making it into a DVD and possibly splitting out some of the good parts. I can't get the DVD to author correctly though. For some reason the video never shows up.
