Here's a slight revision of last year's little survey. I didn't get back to the East Coast, but I have found one place in Southern California that rivals New York City for the percentage of braless women.
Westfield Mall in Topanga in the heart of the San Fernando Valley west of Los Angeles seems to attract braless women at about 7-9%. Other locations in the Valley didn't seem to have this many. but the upscale mall is a definite destination for them. I'm sure the triple-digit temperatures helped with upping the percentage, since I visited on some of the hottest days around. And once they were in the A/C, nipples tended to poke more...
Again, not all these ladies were young, or small breasted, or even small overall, but the trend was younger and slim. It seems like clothing was chosen to minimize see-through, but there were notable exceptions like the two African-American ladies outside the Cheesecake Factory. You could easily see their piercings through the thin t-shirts they were wearing.

For the East Coast outside of NYC, I was counting 2-3% braless. This includes the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. New York City is the champion of bralessness with about 5-6% of the women I saw going without. Not all these women were young, or small-breasted or even small overall, but many were. I don't have any age or size breakdown, it being a very unscientific survey, consisting of just me counting.
As I see it, these numbers are dismal. There should be many more going braless, I'd like to see the numbers double or triple. Perhaps it's the presence of so many camera phones, or bra commercials or something, I can't fathom why. I just hope there's some way to reverse this trend and convince more women to go braless.
