As one might surmise, it's those FEMEN-ists again, this time protesting Medvedev/Putin interference in Ukraine (the red stripes signifying clawtracks of the Russian bear). Here are 2 more at a better size; for these, osreb's at this size, and a few duplicative/NN, check flickr user /femen/ 's most recent uploads

I wonder if the protests would be as loud, if the oil company was Texaco or something similar. The mess would be the same, the rig was a contact outfit. Never mind, as long as the world needs oil, this will happen.:(:(

I love oil. It really is the best and most sustainable energy source.

Codepink would be anti-Bush family too. The Bush family started all this drilling in the gulf 50 years ago. It appears there may have been an old score to settle with BP, who would have been a competitor in the area.

But codepink would protest regardless. From their perspective, the oil companies are all the same.

I did not know about the Bush family connection, thanks for that.

I worked for one of the companies that made the 'faulty' blow off valve (but not in that department, I must to add), so have been following developments there. Mistakes were made, at many levels, but it always seems BP are the baddies! The whole oil game is the same, BP were just unlucky (probably) to be the guy without a chair when the music stopped.

The USA would have had to adapt to a very different lifestyle without Gulf oil (as with the UK/Norway in the North Sea), so I am afraid it is a risk that goes with gain. I wonder what the past President (s) would have done????

Anyhow, on with nudity, the only oil I smell now is....sun tan oil!!!:D:D

Pedro, I dug up some interesting trivia related to naked protests in general the other day. It seems we have "Breasts for Bombs" to thank for for the WNBR. Back in the early 2000's, Breast for Bombs gave rise to a protest organization up in Vancouver, BC that started hosting naked bike rides about ten years ago. It was those rides that were the inspiration for Conrad Schmidt when he dreamed up the idea for the WNBR back in 2003-2004.

And now we have most recently (pics in my public nudity events list thread) a naked run to protest Global Warming in South Africa. Attended by 80 people, this was a significant event. I think the idea of combining nudity and protest is catching on....

If only:mad:, we have the right wing local council in Brighton trying to get the police to stop the nudity at next month's WNBR! Bloody bastards!

The police say that they have had no real complaints in past years and the ride has the right to protest. Strange world where the police support the protest against a handfull of 'busy bodies' with (in this case) some dodgy deals too.

We will have to keep an eye on the situation, it is up to the head of the local police to give his blessing to full nudity or not, in the past few years three have and one (a christian:rolleyes:) has not. With over 1000 riders coming, it may be more than they can cope with! When they banned full nudity last time (2006), they had 120 riders, and that was a handful.
