Of course we know that some of these women were actually models who purposely posed provocatively. But we also know that this was "pre-PC", when such things as nudist pageants existed and "naked twister" was not an uncommon activity. I do think that women back then were less resistant to being "admired", and that concepts of "beauty and esthetics" were more part of the nudist culture than they are now. So generally less self-consciousness.

Of course that's my perception, which could be flawed given the fact that I wasn't born yet.
