[ENF] Enferia Adventures: Play-by-post RPG

The moment I'm sure everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived! Tonight marks the beginning of the test battle, and hopefully the system will work smoothly enough for an entertaining story. I will be GMing as well as participating, with BigMara playing the other character. Now, without further ado...


Enferia was abuzz with activity this fine day. The weather was beautiful, the nation was enjoying a period of considerable prosperity, and most importantly for many, the Arena was boasting a very special match. The Arena, a massive marvel of construction, could seat a veritable horde of people, all their seats overlooking the circular field of sand that made up the combat area. The best seats in the Arena, a canopied balcony perched directly over the northern end of the field, were the personal viewing area for Queen Syndra herself.

The beautiful and powerful Queen sat upon an ornate seat, flanked on either side by her beautiful and deadly Royal Guards, each and every one ready and willing to do anything for their Queen. Below, on a special podium, stood the announcer of the Arena as a silvery orb flitted about.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Arena!" the announcer began. "Today, our glorious Queen has seen fit to treat us to a very special battle! We bring to you today two newcomers, not only new to the Arena, but to Enferia as well! Two foreign beauties, each seeking to make a name for themselves, and what better way than to give you all a show?!"

The crowd roared in approval. Newcomers were always a welcome sight, both for the chance to see new flesh, and the chance to see a new champion in the making. Two newcomers at once simply doubled the fun, so far as the people were concerned.

"Furthermore..." the announcer continued. "Her Majesty has announced that whoever wins today's battle shall be granted one request of her royal personage! Within reason, of course. Now, let's meet today's combatants!"

Two iron gates slowly rose up on opposite sides of the sandy circle. From each gate stepped a woman, each beautiful in their own right. From the western gate, a short girl with short auburn hair barely peeking out of a strange red cap stepped forward. Looking up at the silver viewing sphere as it flew down to look upon her, the audience got a closer look at the girl. With pretty green eyes, a dusting of freckles across her button nose, and her thin lips in a small pout, the a murmur of charmed approval rippled through the crowd. While her figure was somewhat lithe, it was still certainly pleasing to the eye.
"Hailing from a distant land, I present to you Jamie Roy, the Redcap!" the announcer roared.

From the eastern gate stepped a woman with long, scarlet hair falling halfway down her back. Her big blue eyes and small nose fit nicely within her thin face's high cheekbones and pointed chin. Her fair skin seemed to have just a hint of elven coloring, not enough to suggest half-blood, but perhaps an ancestor a few generations back. The robed girl seemed a bit shy, though still put forth an air of confidence.
"From a nation to the west, we have the sorceress known simply as Raine!" the announcer cried.

The crowd cheered wildly for both girls. Queen Syndra stood, and the crowd quickly fell silent.

"I shall take note of today's winner." the beautiful Queen declared. "Entertain me with a fine show, and you just may see how generous I can be to those who prove themselves powerful." The Queen then sat once more, smiled, and uttered a single word. "Begin!"



(Equipment for this fight is generic armor provided by the Arena for each fighter, save Jamie's trademark cap. Their durability scores may not necessarily reflect how items of their type and quality will be in the finished product.)

Minor post: Initiative.

When combat begins, initiative is rolled. This is what decides who attacks first. The combatants have a d10 rolled, with the higher number winning the first attack. This roll is modified by Agility. Jamie has an Agility of 7, giving her a +2 to her rolls, while Raine has an Agility of 6, giving her a +1. No joke, Jamie rolled a 6 and Raine rolled a 7, meaning both of their modifiers put them at 8. In the event of a tie such as this, the character with the higher Agility stat goes first.

This means the first attack goes to BigMara.

Even as she awaited the queen's word to begin, Jamie caught the murmured compliments of the crowd. At least half the eyes were on her, but as long as she did things right, she liked it that way. In the final moments before the match began, the Redcap carefully sized up her opponent.

She looked like she might have a little elf in her, but that wasn't all. Her robes meant she was probably a mage, so that meant she'd need to finish this as quickly as possible. Get up in her face and stick to her. That was how she'd win. Jamie figured those robes would make it harder for her to move around, so as long as she was quick about it, she didn't expect much resistance.

And just like that, the fight began.

"Ready or not, here I come!" Jamie smirked, kicking up a plume of dust as she broke into a sprint, soaring towards Raine with furious speed. Assuming she reached her before the mage could counterattack, Jaime would send a flurry of punches and grabs right at Raine's chest and midsection, attempting to pluck away at her robes and rip them away bit by bit, or at least begin dismantling them...

Attack Mechanics: Different weapon types are better suited for different stats. Swords, axes, bare hands, and most standard weapons rely on Strength. Daggers, rapiers, bows, spears, and other such weapons rely on Dexterity (mislabeled as Agility in the previous post because I'm smart like that). Lastly, wands, staves, and other essentially non-weapons are the domain of Magic. At present, attacks are decided by opposed stat checks. In this case, a Strength attack by Jamie needs to meet or exceed a Strength roll by Raine. (This system is VERY likely to change. Potentially before this fight even ends.)

Raine wins the defense check.


Raine was startled by her opponent's swift approach. Whoever this woman was, she was fast! The mage barely had time to react before the red-capped girl was upon her, punching and pulling at her robes! Panicking slightly, Raine pulled away with all her might (for what that amounts to), squirming to break free. To the redhead's amazement, she found herself slipping away from the assault!

Stepping back quickly, Raine brought her hands up in a defensive posture. "You're a fast one." the mage said. "I've gotta be more careful."

Raine watched the other woman intently. She was -not- about to lose her first fight, not with the Queen watching! Looking for an opening, Raine quickly attempted to close the distance once more, fire erupting along her palm. If she connects, she'd aim to grasp and burn off one of the fastenings of Jamie's leather jerkin.

Raine: 1+3(Int modifier)=4
Jamie: 3+0(Int modifier)=3
Raine... does not win.
A 1, no matter the modifier, is considered a "critical failure". For this round (or until a better idea is implemented), this means that Raine's attack fails to connect, and leaves her more vulnerable to attack! Jamie's next attack gains a +2 modifier to hit Raine.

"You got that right." Jaime grinned, employing a quick elbow-block against Raine's forearm as the mage's hand shot towards her. The enchanted flames still blazed brightly along Raine's palm, but with her arm being kept away from the Redcap girl's leather fastenings, it wasn't doing her much good. Clearly, staying at close range with this girl wasn't doing Raine any favors.

"And you're gonna have to be quicker than that if you wanna beat me." with that, Jaime's other hand reached out, striking at Raine's midsection like a cobra, attempting to take hold of the waistline of her robes and wrench them free from the rest of the garment, in the hopes of pulling the lower half of the garment apart at the seams...

Attack Successful!

Raine attempted to step back as her opponent lunged for her once more. Unfortunately for the sorceress, she was too slow to react this time, and Jamie's hand found purchase on the lower half of her robes. Panicking, Raine attempts to wrench herself free as she did before. This proved to be a big mistake.

Though Raine pulled away, she did not do so unharmed. The sound of tearing fabric rang out across the arena, and the crowd cheered as they saw a considerable length of tattered blue cloth in Jamie's hand. The lower half of Raine's robes were almost completely gone, ripped off along the seams with tattered scraps of fabric hanging loosely from the midsection of the garment. The silvery viewing sphere flew down low, giving the audience a closer look at the simple linen pants that still covered the sorceress's legs.

"The first casualty of the fight!" the announcer cheered. "A fine show from the Redcap! But can she continue to press the offensive?"

Raine bit her lip, flustered at being the first to lose something. At least she still had pants, and nothing had really yet been revealed.

"Not quicker. Just smarter." Raine said, replying to her opponent's quip. "And I can guarantee I have you beat there."

Again, Raine's hand glowed with arcane fire. Behind her back, however, her other hand conjured a different type of energy. The flaming hand was simply a ruse, an attempt to keep Jamie focused on her while a pair of spectral scissors materialized around her waist, aiming for the waistband of Jamie's leather pants!

A critical hit!
Opposite the Critical Failure, a 10, regardless of modifier, is considered a Critical Hit. Even if the opponent's defense check exceeds the attacker, a rolled 10 hits. Further, a Critical Hit destroys the targeted garment instantly, provided the garment's health is 10 or lower (Health that high would come from higher quality equipment and/or plate armor).

At a silent order from Queen Syndra, two of her royal guards step forward to the edge of her personal box. Opening a chest, the guards present several weapons: a spear, a sword, and a quarterstaff. The weapons are quickly thrown down into the Arena below.

"This should make things a bit more interesting." Queen Syndra said. "Give the Redcap girl something more than just her pretty little hands to fight with."

"Wha- whoa!" Jaime spluttered as her leather pants suddenly dropped to around her ankles. Raine had tricked her into looking away from her real attack! Taking care not to stumble, the Redcap hopped out of her fallen pants and charged, aiming her arms at Raine's midsection in an attempt to bowl her over. Should this prove successful, Jaime might be able to take advantage of the winded girl's vulnerability and strip her further. The auburn-haired girl might not have as solid a lead as she had hoped, but at least she still still had her linen shorts. They were quite short, however, coming only to mid-thigh, just like the pair Raine was currently relying on to hide her undergarments. Jaime didn't exactly mind, but the threat of losing more was always on her mind when fighting a mage.

"We'll just see about that! I'm no idiot, you know! And I'm a heck of a lot stronger than you, bampot!" Jaime yelled as her attack (hopefully) connected...

Grapple Successful!

"Wh... what the heck is a 'bampot'?" Raine asked, confused. In doing so, the sorceress let down her guard. Big mistake.

Jamie plowed into her opponent, her shoulder catching Raine right in the gut and knocking her to the ground. The half-robed woman hit the ground with a surprised gasp.

(( An attack to grapple or exhaust does not do clothing damage on its own. However, a successful roll has the benefit of stunning the opponent for a round, as well as allowing the attacker a bonus on their next attack. Raine does not get an attack this turn, and her prone state denies her any bonuses to defense she'd normally receive.))

Raine didn't need to be a genius to know that her opponent had just put her in a bad position. She was essentially helpless on the ground like this. Her only hope of escaping Jamie's next attack would be sheer luck. The scarlet-haired sorceress could only hope that her opponent made some kind of big mistake.

Jaime grinned triumphantly as she straddled Raine's stomach, each of her knees hugging either side of the sorceress' slim waist. Perfect. She had her right where she wanted her, so the match was as good as won.

"Well, girlie, a bampot is a girl who thinks she's smarter than she really is, and who's about to wind up naked in front of aaaaaaall these people. Should'a been more careful goin' up against a scrapper like me!" Jaime laughed as she grabbed Raine's robes with both hands, attempting to yank them up and over the girl's arms in one fluid pull. Best-case scenario, she'd remove the garment completely, but even if she didn't quite get it off, she could at least ensure that Raine was momentarily tied up, which would allow her to get those shorts off her legs...
