Default Rapidshare - "Download permission denied" error message

PLEASE NOTE - This affects ALL Rapidshare.com uploaders. Until you follow these steps no-one will be able to download your files.

Rapidshare recently changed the rules (again), so that your files cannot be downloaded unless you set preferences to allow public access -- default settings no longer allow public to download.

You can make your rapidshare links work again if you go to your RS files manager webpage:

https://ssl.rapidshare.com/#myrs_filemanager

You need to have your files in a shared folder and assign download privileges to Public Access. If necessary, you can create a new folder, then highlight files in the right pane and drag and drop them into the folder on the left.

First, if you haven't already done so, you need to choose a "user alias" and "folder alias". Go to Account Overview: at top right corner of the webpage, to the right of your username is a little arrow. Hold your cursor over the little arrow and you can select "Account Overview". Now, at the lower right, you'll see a section labeled Shared Folders:

Click on each Edit link to choose a user alias and then a folder alias.

To create a new folder, first click the "My Files" button in toolbar, select "My Folders" at top left, then click "New folder" button:

In the Create Folder dialog, tick the 2nd box to the right of "Public Access", under the down arrow, then click Save:

Once the new folder appears in the list under "My Folders", the folder icon should have changed from private (lock symbol) to public (people in group).

If you already have a folder with files that you want to make public, right click on the folder and select "Privileges".

Tick the 2nd box to the right of "Public Access", under the down arrow, then click "Save":

Note that the warning in Privileges dialog, "This folder is private!" will be replaced by "This folder is shared!".

Now people can download your files again, at least until your public traffic is exhausted for the day...

With thanks to Denaniel.
