I travel all the time for work and stay in hotels regularly. I have had a surprising lack of sights over the past 10 years. I mainly stay in major national chains in random places across the US, so I don't know if that's the problem. I just finished a stay recently that was particularly lucky as I had two great experiences. This was a typical nice chain hotel off an interstate in a suburban area. It was built on a tight lot so there was limited parking near the front door. I've had tremendous luck over the years. I found that the trick is to ask for a room that is close to the pool. Many times, I've had a door that opens directly into the pool area.
