Default *** HELP NEEDED!! ** to lighten some vids..

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a LOT of vids which are good...but WAYYYY too dark.

I understand there are free programmes out there which will allow you to amend the colour / lighten up vids.

Can someone point me in the right direction, please? It needs to be a free prog if possible.

Thanks

mike

If you are running windows, you probably already have Windows Movie Maker installed on your PC.

That might work for you.

Thanks,

I just bought magix cd and dvd 2005 from amazon for 10 bucks. I had been using previous version for years and loved it. its far superior to any program ive tried. ive tried moviemaker, pinnacle, ....crap i forget the others. pinnacle took up too much resources to run so i couldnt get a feel for it. but Alex is right. you have moviemaker resident likely. The main reason i like magix is for what you need, it has color, lighteness etc controls which are more involved than others.

magix came out with a movie edit program. Id like to get that.

post some of your favorite dark videos and ill lighten them for you.

Any suggestions for Windows 2000? (also with the goal of increasing brightness)

use the filter optin called "levels"
you can also add which codec you need. Make sure you encode any sound with mpeg layer3 audio codec or the file size will be large.

regards
CP.

Default Post them and ask :)

If you want good results you are going to have to, as celeb_peeper noted, adjust the levels; i.e. brightness, contrast, and gamma. Many programs have built in "brighten" filters that do this for you but depending on the original lighting in the video this can either be to much or to little. The best approach, on average, is to put on two level fx filters, and a secondary (or primary) color correcter fx filter: increase the brightness and contrast of the first level fx filter and increase the gamma of the second level fx filter, then boost the mids with the secondary color corrector (this enables you to balance the lighting so the color is not completely wiped out.) I know Vegas Video gives you these options, and so does Final Cut but WMM is a piece of garbage that is only good for converting the audio levels of whackly encoded avi files to WMA.

Or just post them in the proper section and ask for the video's to be brightned, either I will do it or someone else will.

Cheers
