Default "img" code

I'm new here, but not new to forums. Why is the "img" code turned off? Is it off because I am new and not yet a paying member? Is there any way I can turn it on? I see it is highlighted in blue, as if it is an option to turn it off or on. The reason I ask is that I have a lot of material stored at picture hosting sites. I don't like to have all my eggs in one basket. I figure if my computer blows up or my house burns down, I will be able to recoup some of my files.

Am I nuts, you ask?...................perhaps

We only allow pictures to be uploaded directly to the forums using the Manage Attachments feature. We want to avoid the possibility of any hosted pictures going down in the future and leaving us with a lot of little red x's. Uploading the pictures directly to the board is the only way for us to avoid this.

Thanks for understanding

Fango

No. We have no plans on allowing img code on the forums for the same reason we have never allowed it. It would leave the forums vulnerable to getting filled with Red X's anytime an outside file host chooses to delete a file. Plus a lot image hosting sites are full of SPAM and even viruses.

One of my biggest pet peeves are sites with Red X's.

We allow our members to upload their files here. In return, as long as people follow the forum rules, their attachments will never be deleted.

Thanks,
Alex

cannot comment on sites full of viruses, but as far as Red x is concerned, if the site goes down, you can simply junk / delete all the posts containing links of those websites using the search option.

Our forums have over 750,000 posts. I sure wouldn't want to be the chump that has to look through all of them to find the red X's.

This decision was clearly thought out from day 1. The fact that our forums are not filled with broken links and red X's is something that sets us apart and above other sites. We are not going to compromise our integrity by relying on external image hosting.

It's good for newer member like myself who gets to enjoy older threads.I've gone to other boards where threads that was older and the imagehost that was used had images deleted.

Thanks to the board owner, admins, mods and of course, the members who post vids, caps, pics to this board.
