I remember helping a mate clear out his stash after he got married. We found a huge box, about 2x2x4 ft, and it was packed to the brim. It was loaded with magazines and VCDs. DVDs were only coming out then, and there were a few too.

This collection was really old and was built over quite a long period. Most of the VCD titles had at least 1 duplicate, if not 2 or 3. My fried would have watched the didv, forgotten about it and bought it again!

I kept the oldest 'artifact' though. It was half a copy of a 1979 porn mag. I say half because the cover and some pages are already torn / missing.

Well this is like a lesson in anthropology. I don't think there was any porn here until the internet came. The only thing I remember from my teen years is that my brother's friend apparently had a picture of some naked girls but it was a big deal. I see now how this would not be anything special anywhere else in the world. In this single thread I get to learn about strip clubs, which I assume are public (and legal?) brothels, and everyone has a stack of movies or magazines somewhere dating back to the 70s. So maybe that just means in 30 - 40 years we will be the same and everyone will be having sex and posting the pictures? Somehow, I just can't believe it, but you never know.

When I lived with my parents I had an impressive porn collection. Magazines of various types, VHS movies of various categories. I kept them all in the bottom draw of an old wardrobe.

I'd bought a house and when I was packing my stuff away to take with me to my new house, I decided to leave the porn until last, and sneak it out.

The coast was not clear, I got distracted and then I forgot, and left without it.

A day later I remembered what I'd done, and rushed 'home' to collect it.

I'd handed back my key, and so had to knock on the door. My mother answered and I went in. I've come to collect the last of my stuff, I told her. 'Like what' she said. 'oh bits and pieces, not much', I said.

I went upstairs to my old room and went straight to the bottom draw. EMPTY!

My mother had followed me upstairs. 'You'll not find any of it in there.' she said, as she popped her head round the door. I went red and just looked at her, I was lost for words. Realising my embarrassment she went on, 'I've put all you magazines and videos in some bags, and it's in the attic, so your niece doesn't find them when she comes to stay.'

'Oh..er. thanks' is all I could muster. 'Sorry' I said. 'Oh don't worry, it's a shame it's all going, I've taken a couple of things out of the pile if you don't mind.' 'Urm.. no.. I don't mind', I was even more lost for words.

I went and got my stuff and left. When I got to my new hours, I checked through the stash to see what had gone. She'd taken 2 videos, and three magazines as far as I could tell.

The magazines were three of my hardcore European mags, that a friend had brought back from Germany. Thus thread brings back a lot of memories... the worst of which is getting busted by my Mom.

Two stories come to mind.

First is years ago when I was a boy, my dad had a big office reorganise. He had an office at home where he'd do all his reports and had everything in box files that were labelled up with the places he'd visited and written reports on. One of the box files said Mayfair etc. I can't remember exactly how old I was, but I was old enough to know that there was a porn mag called Mayfair and I thought that it couldn't possibly be porn in there. Could it? So, I sat, transfixed, in the middle of a big pile of boxes and opened the box to find a tennage boy's treasure trove. The second story is recent. Before I got married I'd built up my own collection of Mayfairs etc and happily left them laying around in my room and swapping them with my housemate who preferred Penthouse and Playboy. When I started seeing my wife I secreted them in the loft and forgot all about them. We rented my house out to a friend of my wife and I lived at hers. Just recently, the lodger had the loft insulated with this free government scheme. She said the people had been round to look at the loft to assess what needed doing and I had to take away "cables and other bits" that were in the loft.

So, I went along, having completely forgotten in the intervening twelve years I'd left anything up there. The first thing I found when I poked my head through the hatch was a pile of porn staring me in the face all but screaming "Busted, you perv" at me! There is no way the workmen hadn't seen it and I wonder if they said anything to my lodger.

Was lovely to look back at these beautiful, still bushy women, read the letters and feel nostaligic. I've kept some just for old times sake and have carefully hidden them.

I think the majority of guys have or have had a porn/nudity stash at some stage of their lives and if you look at the amount sold over the years then there must be a lot out there. Nowadays a large part of it is on computers and USB or portable hard drives etc. I have a collection of dvds/videos under the bed and the rest on computers where my partner who does not live with me won't see them as she has often said that she doesn't like looking at them.

Around 9 years ago she was given 2 computers by friends of hers who were upgrading. One was from an older guy and whilst I didn't find any pictures on it he hadn't cleared the history which showed that he had been to almost every porn site on the net. The other one came from a couple who are mutual friends and hidden in the documents were some quite explicit photos which we figured were downloaded by their son and never erased, we didn't mention it to them but would love to know if it really was him. The husband didn't know how to turn a computer on but the wife was fairly adept and was known to appreciate a little porn.

I too have often wondered what might happen with my stuff if I were to die suddenly and they say that the definition of a true friend is one who will come around and clean up your computer after you die.
