Media Player Classic
I'd strongly recommend Media player classic. I just figured out that it has a function that captures whole vids automatically (see attached pic).
You just have to click: File --> Save preview pics (I guess it's called so, i use the german version) --> save the pic You can change the # of columns and lines and the pic size (will affect the number of pics in the preview). Using this method will give an better overview about the movie

Imagegrabber (I believe that the current release is Imagegrabber II and it is freeware) also works for providing 'contact sheets' similar to the ones that you get with Media Player Classic.
It can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ImageGrabber

Screen Captures
Personally I don't like to download a file if it doesn't have screen caps so here are some tips:
Screen Captures ===================== Windows Media Player ===================== You can do a screen capture from Windows Media Player. Open Windows Media Player and go to... Tools / Options / Performance tab / Advanced button... Uncheck the box...'Use Overlays' / OK / Apply / Yes / OK... Now...play the video and pause it on the screen you wish to capture...to do your screen capture press the "print screen" button on your keyboard, this copies the capture to your clipboard - paste the capture in Paint or Photoshop (whatever you like) and crop/save it. ===================== Media Player Classic ===================== For screen captures in Media Player Classic... try the following steps... Open Media Player Classic and go to...View / Options / Playback / Output...in the right pane... tick...System Default / Apply / OK Now play your movie clip and type... Alt+I to do the capture. You do not have to pause but it makes it easier to get the frame you want. ===================== VLC Media Player ===================== To setup for your screen captures...open VLC and go to...Tools / Preferences / Video button / Video Snapshots section. In the directory field...Browse to and select a folder to save your captures in. (for example...you could create a new folder on your desktop and select it) At...Prefix...check the box...Sequential numbering. At...Format...choose JPEG or PNG. Finally.....left click the 'Save' button. Now...Play the video and pause by pressing your Spacebar when you see a screen you wish to capture. To capture the screen...type... Shift+S Press spacebar to advance to the next photo... Last edited by eaze187; 04-06-2010 at 10:55 AM. |

i tried using the "print screen" option in windows media player and pasting it into ms paint, but that is a pain in the butt because you have to crop the photos. it would take forever to make a good number of caps for each vid.
i also tried using the screen shot feature in vlc player. but i hate that as well. it's difficult to get it to pause exactly where you want (the old windows movie maker was great at that). anyone have any other recommendations? i'd rather not load up my computer with even more software, but if i have to i guess i will. i've noticed some software mentioned earlier in this thread, but that was 4 years old and i assume there's new/better stuff now. thanks. |
