What I'd like to do is simply post a link to the story on asstr.org, a free site. So far, so good. Naturally, I'd give credit to the author in my post. But do I really have to go to the extra step of contacting the author for permission for the link? Seems like if he or she posted it at such a free site, he or she is hoping for the largest publication/dissemination anyway. Thanks in advance.
Posting a link to a story is fine (we even have the thread prefix "Links to Fictional Stories"). Copying and pasting the entire story over without the author's permission along with the link is not fine, as I understand it.
