Not to dwell on this point since so many others have responded but I think part of it goes back to old times with some of the first movies having a damsel in distress, tied up on a railroad track and the hero coming in and saves her. It seems to have made railroad tracks and beautiful woman go hand in hand. It also could be that they offer a more private public setting with easy availability which make them a easy place to so shoot.
