Sorry just realized I forgot to reply. I use a variety of cameras. I would aim for a DSLR and a nice zoom lens. I also don’t typically hide the camera, but I keep it in a backpack and take the shots really quickly which is why the DSLR is preferred. It focuses quick and you don’t have to be right on the subject. The best places to shoot are beaches where there is a tree or bush line close to the water because you can blend in there and shoot quickly. Also I tend to keep moving and not stay in the same place very long. If I miss my shot I come back and try to get it 15-20 minutes later so I’m not lurking and drawing attention.
